Gilf and Maruja go out of their way to make sure you feel at home and have all the information you need about trekking through the surrounding beauty of Huaraz. The breakfasts are also the best I've had with the option of eggs or pancakes! Awesome rooftop views.
We really enjoyed our stay at la casa de maruja. We were picked up from the bus terminal and really made to feel at home. Big room, spotless, good breakfast, loads of really good useful info on walks / trekking options. You need a taxi to get into town (about 4 soles) but these are very easy to pick up. Would recommend to stay here.
We loved our stay in this hostel. The owners are very friendly and helpful with a lot of knowledge of the region and the activities. The rooms are big and very clean, it's like a hostel with hotel service. Location is somewhat out of town, but close to nice restaurants, great view a just half a block from taxi's and busses which cost about 0,20 eurocent to go to the city center (3 minutes). Worth a stay when you are visiting huaraz,
Great hostel with everything a backpacker need. The owner Maruja and Gilf are very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed our stay a lot.
For us, visiting La Casa de Maruja BB was like visiting family. We got wet on a hike...they made a fire. My journal was soaked with rain water and Maruja patiently helped me blow dry it page by page. The location for us was perfect, not in the over the top noise of the center of the city, and it is close to a hike that has been clearly marked by the staff of La Casa de Maruja. We highly recommend La Casa de Maruja as a great home base for the many Huaraz adventures available!
Had a lovely stay, gilf and Maruja made us feel so welcome! He even picked us up from the bus station free of charge. We had a huge room, although our shower was tempromental gilf I'd all he could o fix it. The owners helped us organise some amazing treks, lending us equipment for free and kept our bags safe in the room whilst we were away. Maruja made us breakfast really early or really late depending on when we had o get up! It's quite a walk from town but well worth the taxi ride. Great place
Gilf and Maruja, the owners, treated me like family as soon as I entered the front door (at 5am). Perfect if you're looking for a quiet place to get some rest after long days of trekking (Gilf's experience as a guide is very helpful in that regard, btw). It's really a 40 minute walk to Plaza the Armas, but it's very easy and cheap to catch a colectivo to and from downtown, so not an issue for me. Stayed there for two weeks and would go back for sure.
We had a wonderfull time in Huaraz thanks to Gilf and Maruja. They make you feel at home and help you whenever they can. Gilf speaks good English and can also arrange very good hosted trekkings in the area. We've done some trips in Peru but Gilf was the first that fulfilled all his promises. The hostel is not in the center of town but taxis are affordable and shops in the neighbourhood are cheap. We can't recommend this hostel enough, if you're going to Huaraz, go to Casa De Maruja!!
