About

We offer unique accommodation in an old prison - stay in the old cells!

Langholmen is a famous island in central Stockholm, close to Sodermalm, which is well-known for all its bars, restaurants, theatres, galleries and lively atmosphere. We are close to beach, green areas and public transport.

Accommodation is in well-equipped cells with two-to-four bunks, with or without private bathroom. All rooms have bunk beds, even the twin rooms. Most cells have their own shower and WC.

Our reception, which contains a boutique and a bar is open 24 hours a day. We also have a pub, restaurant and bike rental.

Located in central Stockholm, our large hostel is situated on a green and quiet island close to public transport. Langholmen is the most captivating hostel in Stockholm. It offers accommodation in the original, but now freshly renovated, prison cells in what used to be the Crown Prison. Built in the 1840s, it served as a prison until 1975, when the last convict left the island.

Please note:

Bed linen, towel, breakfast are not included in the price, but can be rented in the reception.

An excellent hostel-hotel-conference complex that is known and praised by the Swedes. The staff handled it very well even though I had unsuccessfully booked the evening of the same day (a classic). Location is on a quiet island, walking distance to grocery stores. It's a longer walk to the centre, but the public transport takes you straight to the centre. Although the beds are bunk beds, the accommodation is hotel standard.

Stayed her for just one night, but was a really interesting and cool place to stay. Everything was perfect, but not the most socialable of hostels of your looking to meet people. Overall, a great and worthwhile experience staying here

Hidden cost like cleaning fees and linen (must have) fees are only mentioned when checking in. Would be better if they are already included at the start to prevent confusion. Location is far off in a island that has no public transport access to, hence you need to walk quite a long distance. On the other hand, it makes it super quite to stay there. Please have curtains/ blinds/ something that could block off the light from the sun outside. Sunrises very early during my stay on end May. Not the best slee

Hostelworld says

If you're looking for an unusual place to stay in central Stockholm, Langholmens Vandrarhem STF/HI is in a former prison built in the 1800s. Hostelworld guests have said this is a "friendly hostel with character in a beautiful location" with "very clean and comfortable" rooms in the former cells. There's a restaurant and pub in the old prison hospital, while the hostel is surrounded by lush greenery and beaches. Reviewers frequently tell us how much they enjoyed their "lovely" morning swim; it's little wonder this hostel was voted the best in Sweden in 2008 by Hostelworld users!
