Good hostel, rooms were spacious and clean, great common areas with huge free breakfast, good wifi, free tea and coffee and cookie hour and well equipped kitchen. Only down point was location was a 15 min bus ride from the city, though was close to walks. Helpful staff and volunteers though not many shared bathrooms, only 2 female showers for our whole corridor. Very mixed group of people staying there, not great for meeting people as there were lots of families and a lot of older people.
Like all other reviews said, it's far from the centre of town, 20 minutes on the bus. I had to buy a ticket on the bus which was expensive at 50 NOK. You can buy a Bergen card (24hours for 200NOK that covers lots) and get public transport for free so if you can get online or to the Tourist Info to buy a Bergen card before getting the bus I'd recommend it! The hostel itself was big and clean, like any HI hostel! Nice common areas, breakfast included, clean rooms, lovely view at sunset etc.
Location is a bit of hike but with awesome views, if you get a skyss or Bergen card it's to easy! They have coffee hour with free snacks and coffee great way to meet other people. Lots of activities throughout the hostel. Very good place we loved it. Breakfast included in price and makes life a little easier. Hostel is clean and staff are helpful. Would stay here again for sure!

It is a little far from the city center, but it is easy to get to by bus, and there is a great view of the city. The kitchen was nice and the free breakfast was pretty decent. The beds were very comfortable, but you have to rent linens and pillow cases. The staff were very helpful; I had some problems with bus routes getting cancelled that they helped me work through. They also have volunteers at the hostel that will do hikes and tours of the city with you.
Is a bit far from the centre (4 km), but there is a very convenient bus to get there (a trip costs 35 NOK). You can hike to the Ulrike mountain, the trail starts somewhere close to the hostel. There is breakfast included and is ok. They offer also cookies in the afternoon, I've heard.
The location, though far away from town was ideal since you are already halfway up Mt Ulriken meaning ready made awesome views. The tour guide staff were really friendly at breakfast (just got chatting at breakfast, I didn't even go for a tour). Generally great place to stay, only gripe was the dorms I stayed in were a bit grubby, but not bad for hostel standards
Though it was a long trek to get to this hostel if you don't want to pay ridiculous fees for a bus, this hostel was great! The atmosphere was amazing and the free tea, coffee, and cookie hour was a nice way to meet people!
Great hostel if you're traveling alone and want to meet new people. The location was a little outside the city center but next to Mt Ulriken, which was an amazing half day hike and had a better view of the city than the hill in the city center. The staff was awesome and the facilities were very clean. Good breakfast too!
Loved the hiking from the hostel, dont' miss that! Location too far away, the best way to save money: no pubs or bars that you could reach walking at night
There should have been a provision of some kind of eating options for people who arrive late & cannot go back to the city to eat out, as the hostel provides free breakfast , they could also provide dinner or some kind of options for dinner at a cost.. Overall a very nice place & absolute value for money, very friendly & courteous staff. i would definitely recommend this place & return.
a trek from downtown and public transit in Bergen is not the greatest (and expensive)... but once you get to the hostel it is great! Common room has a beautiful view and the staff are very helpful :)
I had a nice stay at Montana. The directions to get there were well laid out and check in went smoothly. It is a really big hostel I enjoyed seeing the diversity of the groups that were there. From families to student groups to independent travelers, it was a great mix. I was traveling alone and was very comfortable with the atmosphere. The room is nice and the kitchen had plenty of supplies to cook anything. The wifi was difficult though even whe. I paid on their computer it didn't connect wel
Value for money. If u need a bed to sleep, its perfect. Dont expect luxary. Location os little bit far, but i guess it doesnt matter if you have your own transport.
Great place with very friendly and knowledgable staff

Great hostel with great staff and a really good atmosphere. Claudia is AMAZING! Supermarket just next door. The kitchen and the common room are awesome! Only thing its a little bit far from the city center though.
I loved staying at this hostel! I wanted to go on a hike that wasn't scheduled and the volunteers set up a time for me and others to go. They were so nice and fun to talk to and hang out with. The staff was also really helpful [I should know--I asked a bunch of questions haha]. Breakfast was plentiful. The only negative is the location is far from the city center and the bus doesn't run that often. If you plan your schedule around the bus, and you'll be fine!
Love this hostel and definitely will be back
Quiet hostel out of town. It's a nice location, especially if you're driving, but there's not much atmosphere. The staff were lovely though and there's some nice touches, like the free hiking tour etc.
Great location if you love to hike. It's only a 10/15 minute bus ride into the centre of Bergen, too. The staff were very helpful, although the WiFi could be a bit spotty if there's very many people staying in the hostel. No lockers in the room, and there were not enough for the amount of people staying (in the basement). Free bikes to borrow was a nice bonus! One of the best breakfasts I've had, also.
