Although I gave all the details about my credit card to Hostelworld when I did the reservation, Northumberland hotel asked the three digit number oby mail. As I was hiking in the mountains, I could not answer, of course, and they canceled my reservation ! ! The result is that I had to find another accomodation for three persons at the last minute ! i think that this thing about the digit card should be dealed between Hostelworld and the hotel itself. Of course, my deposit was not reimbursed !

This was place was great value for money. A private bathroom is always a plus. The staff were very helpful. The optional breakfast was quite tasty, but you did have to get up by 9 am to get it. The only problem with the Northumberland Hotel is that it was too far from the centre of Edinburgh, we would have struggled without a car.

Paid £400 for 4 nights (rugby game on) - thought it expensive. Breakfast good, people welcoming . Bedroom not cleaned, bathroom door would not close and nothing done about it even though mentioned. Cups not cleaned. Bins were emptied regularlythough.

Nice hotel. Very secure at all times. Staff were friendly and helpful and place was good and clean. Showers were a bit on the less powerful side. 15 minute bus into the city or a 7 pound taxi.

Nice and cozy, very good heating, kind and helpful Mr.George. The only thing that should be said beforehand is that there is no elevator and people with walking problems (like me, both hips and one knee replaced) cannot move around easily. If this was announced in advance, we would have asked for the ground floor room.

Got upgraded to a private room with Queen bed which was aweome. Wifi in the rooms was patchy, no breakfast served after 9am (which I paid for in advance) and its a 20 min walk From royal mile. Still, for the price it was pretty good. More like a big BnB than a hostel.
