Having read previous reviews we went with low expectations but came out with them slightly above what we thought. We stayed one night either side of a Cool Dingos 3 day tour of Fraser Island (highly recommend). The positives - location; free wifi (although only in communal area); friendly permanent staff. The negatives - temporary staff (staying in tents for 1 hour's work a day) partying when we were trying to sleep and had to get up for Fraser Island; stained bedsheets and tired room
After being assigned a room and walking in the heat with large bags and cases away from the hostel to get there, we were told upon reaching the accommodation that a group of lads had booked it an hour ago. We had booked this days before? The cleaner was rude and the staff in general showed very little knowledge of customer service. The bathroom was dirty - the floor, shower and sides. The bed broke and we had to spend time fixing it. There was no consideration for others with regard to noise.
Staff are helpful. No lockers. Kitchen can get a mess, as some guests are lazy. When I left my bag in storage including my laptop I came at night to find the secure baggage room with the doors wide open. Anybody could of taken it.
Good hostel, near the Greyhound busstop which is a nig bonus! Rooms were clean, bathrooms were okay but I only used the ones closest to the kitchen because the locks on the other ones got a bit stuck sometimes. Clean kitchen, it has everything you need. Free luggage room but not secure. Wash and dry machines are really good. Free bodyboards. I loved the cat hanging around there! And I loved the open fire.

The staff wasn't really happy to see us. It is more like a chilling spot for staff. The beds are confortable and the location is good. The shower are correct too. The kitchen is big but not really clean. It is ok to stay one or two nights. :)
Lack of kitchen equipment and small kitchen space. Rooms next to kitchen were very noisy. Very good location.
A rather cramped, dirty hostel. Couldn't tell who was a guest and who was staff. Would not recommend
Kitchen had cats and birds running through and across food, whilst hobs required you to have your own lighter to use (annoying as a non smoker). And the rest of the place wasn't particularly clean. Dingo's next door looks the cleanest of the three in Rainbow Beach.
The stay was ok. Only stayed there to go to fraser, as do 90% of the people that stay there. It was quite dirty kitchen but that goes for most of the hostels in aus. We had a bathroom right next to our room which was clean. Poor wifi. The good thing about the place was free breakfast, good quality bread & got free rolls that we used for our lunch. It was just ok.
Give your guests a doona/duvet in the autumn/winter, it was freezing in the room!
Great atmosphere, wish I could've stayed longer!
Good hostel - free WiFi, clean and good atmosphere. I stayed at Frasers in Rainbow beach as well and Pippies is definitely better.
Pippies has a very relaxed atmosphere and is a comfortable, affordable place to stay. If you want to party you can buy some drinks and sing karaoke next door. The wifi does get overloaded so don't depend on it too much! The beach and shops are just a short walk away. The tour of Fraser Island was brilliant and Brett, our guide, was so helpful and knowledgeable. I had so much fun, would definitely recommend their Fraser Island 4WD trip!
If you want to have a freaken sweet time in rainbow beach, make sure you go here. All rooms have aircon (except the 8 bed dorm), and there is plenty of room to chill and hang out. Pool is really nice, and the staff are the topping to the cake. Big shout out to the two staff members Arran and Katie for being so awesome. Katie even sacrificed her own bed for a walk in that forgot to book, leaving her without a bed for the night. Such selflessness :D
Great stay here! The staff are excellent and really friendly, welcoming and generous. The beds in the dorms where a bit noisy but the atmosphere and location made up for that.
Only good thing about this hostel is its tours for Fraser Island. The kitchen is small and disgusting, the dirtiest kitchen I've ever seen in a hostel. Bathrooms aren't that much cleaner either. Good tv room. The staff aren't friendly. Would not stay here again not would recommend this as a place to stay.
This is a nice place to stop for a night of you are going to Fraser Island or coming back but I wouldn't stay long, there's not much around. The hostel was clean and comfortable though.
Small rooms uncleaned rusty and old bathrooms with wholes in the sink and walls

Enjoyed my stay there very much. Super chilled atmosphere and friendly staff. There was a guy with his sneaks coming a few days a week when i was there what was really cool.
