It's OK just for some few days. I saw a rat in the kitchen. The owner was rude.

Other than the location, overall the hostel was great. The staff were friendly and helpful with Fin & Ross helping me out a lot during my stay there with information and recommendations. Facilities were great with a large common room to chill out, big kitchen. A pity I didn't get a chance to try out the sauna while I was there. So many activities happening there like the Monday movie night in the tv room, Tuesday large pizza offer etc. When I return to Taupo again, I'll be staying here again. :)

Great service, very friendly and accommodating. Extended stay an extra night. Rented mountain bikes for only $6/$20 hour/day. Location was great too, only 20 min walk to huka falls walkway and 10 min to restaurants and lake, about an hour to tongariro and Rotorua. All ages and nationalities seem to stay, not just teenage backpackers which was refreshing. Highly recommend.

Staff were very friendly and efficient. We had booked a private room with shared bathroom but on arrival were given an en-suite room, great! The room was clean and comfortable. The other areas of the hostel were busy and so not as clean.

We had a great stay here. Maybe think about having a noise curfew? But otherwise a great stay and we were very impressed with the showers!

My friend and I had a great time. It is a little bit out of the town, but so worth the walk into town (5 min). It was quiet and clean, and there was a great mix of people. Highly suggest a visit if you don't want to be right in town, near the bars.

A hubcap was stollen from the parking lot. Not a big deal. I come from Africa.

We loved Rainbow Lodge!! The room felt like a hotel rather than an affordable hostel room with our own bathroom and tv! The staff were all very knowledgable and helpful when it came to answering questions about local events. We also loved that they let us store our luggage the day we checked out so we could hike before our bus left. The kitchen was large and we loved the tables outside that allowed us to eat in the shade on a beautiful day. We also loved the location- close to grocery and hiking

Small rooms but adequate, tidy and clean. Shower head slightly broken but not a big issue. Very helpful owner, close to town and nice to be away from the noise. Good kitchen. Didn't check out the sky tv room or sauna.

Great Sauna and Movie room, unfortunately there was always a huge mess in the kitchen.

The best hostel in New Zealand. The people are amazing and will bend over backwards to help you out. The rooms and beds are very clean and comfortable.

kitchen could have been better equiped. Should have been signs which tell people top use tree/ plastic spoons in teflon pans.

Had a good stay here, the staff were very friendly and very helpful, and the room was fine. Only issue we had was the state other backpackers left the kitchen in, got a bit filthy from time to time. Could also do with a few more showers and toilets, but this wasn't a major problem. Would stay here again.

Nice little hostel, not the cleanest kitchen, but very large with plenty of room for everyone and their food. The staff was great and the beds and rooms were good. Good location with easy walk to town, food, ect. One pretty annoying thing, no hot water, always lukewarm.

We are very thankful that after turning up late the nice staff still let us in and made us feel at home! Much appreciated! It had been a long day.

Lovely little hostel, excellent value for money on private rooms. Ross the manager was very helpful with any questions. Nice tv room to chill on rainy days.

One of the best hostels in New Zealand. Upon arrival we were upgraded free of charge to an en suite room (because of the hostel was quite empty back then). The staff were super kind, the room spotless and the kitchen/common area both clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

It was one of the nicer hostels I've been to. I was travelling with two others and we were pleased with everything! Staff were extremely friendly, patient and helpful! At no time did we ever NOT feel safe there. It was in a prime location just up the hill from the lake. Grocery stores, restaurants, bus station and trail to falls all in walking distance. We didn't take advantage of their common area but others did. It was huge with at least 4 fridges for people to store things in. Thanks RL!!
