River View Guesthouse and Hostel Reviews

This is a great hostel in a lovely location overlooking the river that goes through Melaka. One important point that needs to be noted though: the website has an old review that states problems with bed bugs. THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE AND OUR ROOM WAS VERY CLEAN!! This review should be removed, it's over 1 year old & everyone we spoke to during our stay asked the same question regarding bed bugs. It's an unfair comment to remain on the review board. Highly recommend

Excellent staff!

Your hostel is very good. But the double room with window is not as expected. The noise from the street is until 1 - 2am. All the rest is still excellent.

How wonderful to be greeted by the owner with fresh lychee juice the minute we arrived! And where else would freshly baked cakes and tarts be provided for guests each day? And what a surprise to find we could step out the back door and walk along the river! A charming, peaceful place to stay at an excellent price.

I had a great stay at the River View Guesthouse. The owners are very nice and helpful. Freshly baked cakes/cookies are provided for breakfast. The location is perfect: in Chinatown, right by the river. It's the perfect place to have an extended stay and feel at home in the beautiful city of Melaka.

I loved this place. Great value and free cake and tea\coffee. The location is pretty special too. Right on the river. WiFi was of a good strength and speed. The building itself has bundles of character with a real colonial feel. The only negative that I'd note would be that that the showers are pretty poor with little power but still functional. We stayed over a weekend which was a great time as we got to experience the market in china town.

the host was really friendly and personable, he took the time to explain the local attractions and eateries. furthermore, there were pastries, tea and coffee were à volonté which made the experience more like a home stay. i would recommend this hostel to everyone!

We loved this place! The owner has good taste of renovating this old house. We would like to stay here again next time!

Excellent customer service! Just a few days after I made my booking I received an e-mail notification from Riverview regarding my booking and all the detail information regarding the hostel, how to get there, how much I still owe, map of location, etc. I also luv the location. It is right by the river, and in the Chinatown. Only 5 minutes to Jonker Street and 10 minutes to the main attractions.

The owner was very nice (and the home-baked sweets were lovely!), and the facilities were clean and comfortable. The hostel was well decorated and very cute, and of course the view of the river was amazing. We would definitely stay here again!

Me and my mate had so much fun staying at River View Guest in Melaka last few days ago. And thank u so much to Mr Raymond ( owner ) giving us completed map where want to go and eat. Definitely will coming back next trip and staying at his guest house again.

Mr. Raymond understood perfectly how to provide guests a sanctuary beyond any guesthouse expectation. A welcome drink was served while he cleared the formality. The magnificent public river view area was spacious and accessible for every guests. Room was functional but clean according to general guesthouse standard. WiFi is free of charge. Coffee or tea was always available. Guest service even started prior to arrival. Mrs. Mani provided you support and information before you arrive there. Thx!

This was a wonderful place to stay. Definitely the best place we stayed this trip.The bathrooms were shared, but there were enough, and they were clean. Our room was clean and bright- nice. And the terrace over the river was wonderful.

River View Guesthouse was GREAT! The staff were friendly, it's clean, the balcony is lovely and the rooms great value. There's also cake and a shared kitchen area to make things even better. The only down side was a run in with bedbugs... Stay here and get the best out of Melaka!
