About Kuala Lumpur

The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur sports a well-known skyline, showcasing the famous Petronas Twin Towers. Travellers from around the world fall in love with this city for its beautiful buildings, history and delicious food. It’s home to a unique mixture of cultures, and its Malaysian, Chinese and Indian influences can be felt as soon as you sample its food or meet its warm, welcoming people.

Kuala Lumpur hostels are the definition of ballin’ on a budget. Past backpackers appreciate the cleanliness, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff in Kuala Lumpur hostels. Backpackers looking for an extra bit of privacy without the cost of a private room can stay in pod style or capsule hostels. There are plenty of Kuala Lumpur hostels with incredible views over the city, plus one even has a rooftop infinity sky pool! The majority of hostels in Kuala Lumpur have free Wi-Fi as standard, and many serve up a delicious free breakfast to get your day started on a budget! Don’t forget to check out our best hostels in Kuala Lumpur!

You’ll find hostels in Kuala Lumpur scattered around the downtown area, which allows backpackers to be nearby, and sometimes within walking distance to, some of the city’s attractions. The Bukit Bintang neighbourhood is the city’s premier nightlife district, with rows of bars and clubs that are buzzing with backpackers and locals alike. Stay near here if you don’t want too far to stumble back to your hostel at the end of the night! Chinatown and Little India are two of Kuala Lumpur’s most vibrant neighbourhoods – despite only being walking distance apart, they showcase two completely different sides to the city.

The list of things to do in Kuala Lumpur is endless, from rich culture to theme park fun, this city has something for all types of travellers. Kuala Lumpur is home to the Insta-famous Petronas Towers - the tallest twin towers in the world. Adrenaline junkies will love the walk across the sky bridge that joins the towers, plus, not to mention the stunning views over the city. For a dose of nature, why not visit the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park, climb the hanging bridges of KL Forest Eco Park or visit the Batu Caves. For a day of carefree fun head to the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park that is just as loved by locals as it is by travellers. To get an authentic taste of Kuala Lumpur head to Central Market where you’ll find fresh fruit, veg and meat as well as arts and crafts or head to Hutong to indulge yourself in some tasty street food.

Surprisingly Kuala Lumpur is easy to navigate. Walking around the city is a great way to get to many of the main attractions. However, be aware that the police are fairly strict on jaywalking! In terms of transportation, Sentral Station is the main station where 3 rail systems of the city connect. Trains are a great option to help avoid traffic and are reasonably priced. Taxis are an option but are expensive so avoid them if you can.
