Did I stay in the same place? No atmosphere, most of the time empty, & the owner's son who sporadically manned the front desk was difficult (knee-jerk reactions, said I should buy cup noodle cause restaurants were 'too far away', said there was no way to find out about busses - they had a schedule on their noticeboard! etc.). There were signs everywhere telling you rules (micromanagement!), only 3 showers/WCs and nearly no natural light. It was clean, comfortable & well located but nothing more.

We stayed for 2 nights in a double room. The location is very central and we found it to be good value for money. No breakfast provided although there is a kitchen to prepare your own and daily free yummy cake available which is a very nice touch. A free cold water dispenser was also provided. Rooms were fine, A/C and fun. They were basic but functional for what was required and very good value for money. Would recommend.

No cold water dispenser. No basic TV. No desktop computer for guests' use. No inhouse wash

Owner Comment (Hide)
We thank guest for staying with us and for the feedback. The hot/cold water dispenser dispenses water at room temperature for cold water. Guests could fill their bottle and cool/freeze in fridge according to preference. We are basic hostel and not provide tv in rooms. We provide a common area tv for watching dvd and free wifi. Guests could hand wash clothes at the roof top where taps, basin and drying area is provided. Internet café and laundry in within 200 metres and on map given at check-in.

we were in room 9 next to the roof top out side smoking area . We did find this hard as we dont smoke and with the window open for fresh air the smoke came into our room. Plus the sink for the basin didint have a trap - so it did smell quite a bit . We did mention it to the owners - not sure if he understood. We left the tap running slowly so the water washed away the odour - but aprt from that the room was good . The owners son was our Host and was very helpful in recoomending places for dinne

Excellent location; very friendly and informative staff; clean; fast Wi-Fi; lovely roof terrace; and best of all, delicious homemade cakes left in the kitchen for the guests everyday! Thanks for making my short visit to Malacca so relaxing.

The 'window' of room 9 was a bit small and the curtains had to remain closed so that nobody from the rooftop was able to look into the room.

I love the guest house. The stuff there is very friendly. The roof top garden is more than beautiful. The location is awesome. It is located in a neighborhood very close to China town and very quiet.

I'm really glad that we decided to stay at the Roof Top Guest House. Our en-suite room had a nice shower and a very comfortable bed. The room was non-smoking too which was very important. The homemade cakes on the kitchen table were an added bonus and the house is in a great location close to all of the historical sites. It was really good value for money and I'd definitely stay there again and would recommend it without hesitation. Use Discovery Cafe round the corner for taxis & bus tickets.

The Rooftop guest House is located close to the Chinese area of Malacca and Jonker St, and also the river where you can sit at one of the bars and watch the afternoon go by. Or you can climb the hill to the 15th century church ruins where they buried St Francis Xavier (now relocated). Check out the Chinese cafe on the corner for excellent cheap meals. So, approx 5- 10 minutes walk away from anywhere of interest. We found the staff to be very helpful, the security good, the GH well maintained.

Great little hostel/guesthouse. It is located in Chinatown, which (in my opinion) is the most scenic neighborhood. Short walking distance to main attractions such as Stadhuys (5 mins). Rooms are clean, dorms with separate beds instead of bunk beds. No breakfast but there's coffee and tea, and always cake available during the whole day (which makes for a nice breakfast). Rooftop garden is nice too.
