Awesome hostel great staff. The only bad bit is the giant hill you have to walk up to get to it everday
Decent breakfast and good location near Lapa (despite the steps!), but only two of the five showers worked when I was there, and the mattresses look and feel about 20yrs old...
I loved my stay at Santa Teresa, if I ever go back to Rio de Janeiro I will definitely stay here again, the staff were friendly and helpful and is located close to the centre of Rio

The wifi almost never worked during my 4 day-stay!
I had a fantastic time in the hostel. Climbing up the hill was awful every single day, but we knew that before and it was a good workout. ;) We didn´t have air condition in the room, so it was very hot. The toilets sometimes didn´t work properly. But: The staff was very, very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was really good. We had caipirinha- evenings during carnival in the hostel and they have been the best, I´ve ever tasted. I would definitly recommend that hostel.
Great hostel, only spent one night (unfortunately) . Big rooms, nice light, fresh, huge lockers under the bed. Really nice staff, cheap drinks, 5 minutes away to party area. Party in the hostel too. Only con: at the top of a hill, need to climb, at the same time, there's buses just round the corner. Would come again!!
Likes: location good for nightlife, staff are some of the best I've had in a hostel. Views, hostel Fri night drinks. Dislikes: location for the beach, no air con, mosquitoes, walking up the stairs to get to it... Especially with backpack. Recommendations: AIR CON! get rid of TV in lounge, more PC's.
We enjoyed our stay there a lot! Great relaxing place, friendly staff and a lot of places to go out nearby, just 5 minutes down the hill
It is a wonderful place. Everybody with a good vibe. All receptionists are lovely and polite. I wanna come back more and more times at Santa Teresa Central Hostel.

Great value for money. Located in a very central location near Lapa and Escadaria Selarón. Breakfast is great with fresh cakes baked daily. Note the area can be dangerous and the hostel is located on a steep hill, so if arrive at night or carrying heavy luggage I suggest getting a taxi. Staff are friendly but you will need to ask questions to get the most out of your experience in Rio.
Amazing staff! Clean place, very well located!
Really sorry this is late guys... I had such a wonderful time when I stayed here. Everyone looked after me so well. Amazingly helpful - Rodrigo
Very nice all the people that works there, they help me if good tips and were very friendly, thanks everbody !! is close to the pubs area, and for all the transports like metro and bus, I really recomend and have a nice view from the city !! Thanks.
Very nice hostel in a good location on the border of Santa Teresa and Lapa. Staff speak good English and are very helpful. Nice laid back atmosphere. Dorms are spacious and have good lockers. Very good breakfast. Would reccomend
The area is a little dodgy, better to be with a group of people than having to walk back up the hill or stairs by yourself. The place needs a bit of work/better management- ran out of toilet paper while we were there, fan in the room only worked sometimes making it very hard to sleep some nights and matresses are all definitely in need of replacing! On the up side- breakfast was yummy!!
Average hostel which doesn't really try to be anything special. There are plenty of bathrooms, but only one has a working, lockable door on it. It's a hike up a hill to get to and there's a lack of local shops in close proximity. The staff are reasonably helpful and there's beer available from behind reception. Apart from that, there's not a great deal which makes this place memorable.
Very nice hostel with good location close to party district of Lapa.
It wasn't that the staff don't clean, they do and are very nice. But the place overall is a bit run-down, so hard to make such an area look better. The breakfast was yum. Good for bigger groups who like to go out partying at night. The area is very close to Lapa which is also great at night time.
It is an ok place, some function-problems like no toiletpaper, there is no lock on some bathroom, and cant flush the toilet sometimes, but that is the same for many hostels in Brazil. The staff is friendly, but are not Brazilians. They mixed up our beds with other guests and couldnt find our booking and dont have a structure to help the guests with basic information like maps and stuff a tourist could need. All in all, you can live there if you are just coming back just for sleeping
