Before going, we had not realized how incredibly empty Skye was at this time of year. EVERYTHING was shut, including the tourist information (until March). The receptionist was friendly but also kind of clueless about where we should go or what we could do. Also, the kitchen was missing some main things like salt/pepper, knives, etc. These were all minor problems though because Skye was so beautiful! I imagine during the summer this place is more lively! The music in the pub was really nice! Before going, we had not realized how incredibly empty Skye was at this time of year. I arrived on Saturday Oct 24th when Saucy Mary's was having a lot of musicians playing in the pub. We partied until the wee hours of the morning. The village of Kyleakin is beautiful. You can catch a bus from Kyle of Lochalshe or do as I did and walk 2 miles from the train station to the hosel. the walk over the bridge is fantastic. Someday I'll make it back to the Isle of Skye.! The hostel itself was cumfy and relaxed with a good kitchen and good showers.I arrived on Saturday Oct 24th when Saucy Mary's was having a lot of musicians playing in the pub. conveniently located, I had a room to myself most of the nights I was there, reception staff wasn\'t sure where the fuse switch for the shower was, which resulted in me reporting them as broken only to have the manager tell me (but not reception?) how the fuse worked...
but fine, definitely loads better than the reviews here had led me to believe!conveniently located, I had a room to myself most of the nights I was there, reception staff wasn\'t sure where the fuse switch for the shower was, which resulted in me reporting them as broken only to have the manager tell me (but not reception?) how the fuse worked...

Lacking in facilities but ok if you want something very basic. Fitted sheets on bed not changed/cleaned - instead they provide a sheet for you to lie on/under. This made me doubt the cleanliness of the duvet cover... Kitchen ill-equipped. Cutlery was often scarce and there was only one knife (a bread knife!). Hostel would benefit from a common room since there is nowhere to relax apart from bed or pub. For the high price, it would've been nice if breakfast (at least cereal/toast) was included.Lacking in facilities but ok if you want something very basic. Great if you want to enjoy nature and the quietness of Skye. The room was fair, though some of my mates woke up with a backache the next morning and said the mattresses were a bit too hard for them. Wussies :P
A pub is directly beneath the rooms, which is great, but you could always smell what they were cooking in the hallway.
WiFi is available in the pub and the small store next door, which has almost everything for your everyday needs. There is also a kitchen for everyone to use.Great if you want to enjoy nature and the quietness of Skye. I was supposed to be there for 8 nights but cut out after 2 due to extreme boredom. Hostel had a pub attached to it which was nice, but if you\'re not a real people person it can be hard to find anything at all to do. Clean place, comfortable beds (although the rungs on the ladders need to be screwed in properly), beautiful area. Staff was helpful.I was supposed to be there for 8 nights but cut out after 2 due to extreme boredom.
