The Flora Macdonald Independent Hostel is set on the beautiful Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye. Our views over the Sound of Sleat to the mountains of Knoydart on the mainland Scotland opposite are just stunning in any weather. Especially while enjoyed in the company of our Eriskay ponies. The hostel is ideal accommodation for visitors arriving or leaving via the Mallaig-Armadale ferry as we are only 2,5 miles from the ferry terminal. We might be 50 minutes from Portree, but our peninsula has its own distillery, beautiful Point of Sleat lighthouse with views over the Small Islands, sandy Camas Daraich beach, woodland walks and Sabhal Mor Ostaig Gaelic College with regular gigs and culture (10 mins walk from the hostel). Village of Tarskavaig is a 10 minute drive. (runner up in prettiest village in UK competition)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Payment is by CASH or bank transfer No credit/Debit cards are accepted. The RECEPTION IS OPENED BETWEEN 0900 -1000 and 1700-2100. The latest check in time is 21:00. VERY IMPORTANT Late check in fees apply of 10.00 per person. Once checked in you may come and go as you please.
We offer value private rooms for two, three persons and two larger rooms for six people. The main building is converted stone farm with common area, kitchen and log burner, and the 2 large 6 person rooms both ensuite. The second adjacent building, our chalet, has rooms for 2, 2 and 3 people with shared shower and kitchen. All our rooms single beds and 1 bunk. (3 person room). The nearest shop is in Broadford and in Armadale and we offer small selection of frozen and dried food, so please ensure you bring food supplies with you.
Owner Peter Macdonald born and raised in Sleat, is always happy to recommend places to visit. His family has lived in Kilmore for several generations and he is more than happy to share his extensive knowledge of Skye history.
Flora Macdonald Hostel policies & conditions;
Cancellation policy: 10 days before arrival. In case of a late cancellation or No Show, you will be charged the first night of your stay.
Check in from 17:00 to 21:00. Please call us if your arrival time is later due to unforeseen circumstances. There is a late arrival charge of 10.00 per person until midnight. Any later it will be £50.00. If your travel plans mean that you cannot check in before 2100. You may wish to consider booking elsewhere as we are a quiet countryside location, and late checks disturb other guests.
