The people working in this hostel makes it worth it I guess. They were all super nice and helpful. The location is great, I could go out, take a couple of steps, and I'm right in the middle of everything. Nice sized lockers. The beds were slightly creaky though and the showers could use a little more pressure.

Good location right in the city centre, although being just steps away from the Red Light District might bother some. Staff were really nice, although some hadn't been there long (and certainly weren't Dutch) and couldn't answer some questions about the city. Atmosphere is pleasant, despite it being quite religious (posters, daily bible meetings, etc). Besides the cafe, there didn't seem to be a lot of common areas to sit in. My bike was safe there, but just sat uncovered in the courtyard.

Good place overall. 16 people is a LOT for a room. Staff kinda pushed the Christian thing more than I would like.

The staff were nice, location awesome, wifi worked.. But the people who made up the atmosphere were kinda lacking in personality. I think some of the guys I met there had their mom book this hostel for them..

Bad- The shower heads could be more efficient if they could be moved around to direct the water. Bathrooms seemed always dirty. Good- Staff are great, location is great, breakfast is very good Recommendations- You should place wall sockets, for charging electrical equipment ; along with a lamp near each bed with a small shelf to place cell phone or clock.

Fantastic location. Really friendly staff. No pressure to join in on Christian activities (I am not Christian and there were plenty of others who weren't) but lots available if you are interested. 24/7 security. Free breakfast was great (there were pancakes when I stayed on Sunday morning). Bathrooms are cleaned regularly. Nice cheap restaurant in the building. Dorm was pretty big, so there can be people coming in late at night.

Fabulous staff helpful informative shame about the non arrival of the guide for the walking tour, we shared a 4 bedded room with en-suite the room was very small but was kept clean and tidy by the cleaning staff every day, as there were 4 of us we decided a couple of us would use the shared showers and toilets at the end of the corridor, to save time . However after looking at said wash room this was not possible due to them being unclean and very smelly, we also thought the breakfast was poor

Nice Hostel with really friendly and helpful staff. Would be nice if there were more chairs around the place for sitting. The cafe and the tables by the fridge tended to be occupied. Also, there seemed to be a lack of plugs around the building.

Best hotel in Amsterdam, eccellent location! Good wifi! Include breakfast!

Best hostel of the city! Great place where to meet new people, chill out in a silent location, enjoy time with friends. There is always somebody singing or playing an instrument. The staff is very kind and reliable at any hour of the day. Right in the heart of the red light district and very close to the train main station. It actually is a shelter! Must recommend!

I had a great time at shelter city. They staff are very friendly and helpful. They use a ticketing system for security which Is very effective... Just don't loose it!! I have in a 4 bed female dorm with ensuite... The room was a good size so we weren't all on top of each other. One negative was that the bathroom was very small.. Similar to one that you would find on a train or overnight ferry! But that's the only minor complaint. Would definitely come back!

Right in the heart of the Red Light District, so very central location (within 10 to 30 min walk of everything)! Super nice facilities, even the 16 bed dorm. Had a little trouble getting the right water pressure for the shower. Staff was fantastic (shout out to Emmy from SC who was super friendly)! Not a lot of plugs in the room, but they do offer a charging station at the front desk. Great outdoor patio. Not in your face about religion or a Christian hostel. Would definitely stay there again!

I really appreciate this hostel. Yes, there are few plugs in the rooms to charge the mobile phone but the reception is always available to charge the phone for you. The comfortable of the hostel is pretty good. I like a lot the staff, especially David at reception. He' s so nice. If you have a problem he will solve it, this is sure. He's not just an handsome guy, he is kind and always available for you with his beautiful smile. David is definitely the best.

The showers aren't particularly discreet as you can see others when in them.

The staff are great, friendly and helpful. Wewerea bit worried about staingin red light district but I honestly think this is one of the safest places we could have stayed. Overall we had a great stay.

Quite a good hostel. The best thing was the breakfast, which was included in the price, sthg that you don't get in other hostels in Amst. The worst thing: lack of atmosphere. But anyway, if that is not your main reason for choosing a hostel, go to Shelter City. Excellent location and security and very nice staff.

Staff were amazing!! REALLY enjoyed my time. Also, very helpful.

Nowhere does it state that there are 3 floors. Had to carry my almost 80lbs suitcase up and down 3 flights of stairs.

This was a pretty good hostel. It is very Christian so if that bothers you, then it might not be the most ideal. For myself, it didn't bother me because it was a good hostel and safe and affordable. They don't have a lot of plugs but allow you to plug in your phone at reception in a safe cupboard which was a good service. Met some nice people. If you are Canadian don't have the pancakes for breakfast you will be dissapointed.

This is an older style hostel with dorm beds and lockers and separate bathrooms. It is in a good location within walking distance to all the main attractions and only 10 minutes from the central train station. There was a supermarket on the same street and tables and chairs in the hostel, as well as a courtyard area and a café. Breakfast is free. There is no elevator. I met some nice people at the Bible Discussion. Overall, a good budget option.
