Had a very pleasant stay at the Shiva Guest House. The staff have a really big heart and every problem they will take care off! Won't forget my stay at the Shiva Guest House!
I Really liked Shiva Guest House, the best hostel I stayed in India. Even though the bed i pre booked was overbooked, they gave me a better one for the same price. Staff are nice and the location is perfect. Maybe if they would put some money on the toilets it would be perfect. Still I advice you to stay here, and to take the sunrise boat tour.
The staff was very friendly and the meals at the rooftop restaurant were delicious and cheap. I felt like home!

As the road (stairs) is not lightened it was a little bit scary to climb all the stairs alone as a female. But once I arrive at the hostel I felt more secured. When I asked to eat the staff tell me to go to restaurants in the neighborhood when there is a rooftop restaurant at the hostel. I guess they were too overwelmed. The room was basic but of good value for the price. My private bathroom was very smelly. The boat tour at 5:30 was wonderful. I would recommend this hostel for a short stay.
Fantastic communication prior to arrival. Airport pickup with a member of the family helped in locating the hostel. Good location with superb rooftop views. Fantastic variety of home cooked food on the roof makes a pleasant retreat from the busy alley ways. All the staff and family members are happy, polite and incredibly helpful. Really made to feel like home during our three night stop over. Rooms are marvellously clean, comfortable and cosy. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water!!
Wonderful place to stay! The family that runs the guesthouse is warm and welcoming. Each family member has their own quirky demeanor and are willing to help with whatever you need without being overwhelming. This was a great place to stay for a week because of its homey feel. Cheap, clean: perfect for the budget traveler.
Recommended. Staff were very friendly, went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay. Organized boat rides and airport transfers. Great buffet + fireworks show for Diwali. Our room was cramped and basic (stndrd dbl ensuite), other rooms bigger. Clean. Outside noise from alleys and nearby buildings. Wifi very weak higher up in building. Roof-restaurant: Tasty food, nice views, good service, watch out for monkies! 30 seconds from Munshi ghat. Hard to find, but locals can direct you.
We didn't get the room we had booked, but a different one and the hostel charged us much less. Moreover we arrived at 5 a.m. instead of 12:00 and we got the room instantly without additional charge. The owners are helpful, the hostel is very clean, hot shower 24/7. Perfect location just 5 minutes from the main ghat. All in all 4/5.
My time at this hotel was great, Kailash and Shiva made me feel home since were very helpfull and kind. room was clean, food was reasonable priced and the roof top was very nice and peacefull. I have got very good recomendations from the crew about what to do while I was there. I strongly recomend to call or write before getting there in order to be picked up at the station since the old part of the city is very confusing. I definitely would stay there again.
This place was very clean and the staff very friendly. The rooftop was a nice, peaceful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the streets and alleyways. The view was awesome and the restaurant nice. I would recommend this place but to be honest it was nearly impossible to find at first :)
Pretty good just watch your ruppees. As with everywhere in india Shiva and Kailesh do their best to prise them from your fingers. Would stay there again....
Difficult to find but excellent location in the end - in a part of old varanasi that's slightly calmer with excellent access to the sites. The rooms are nicely decorated, there's a homely atmosphere, decent wifi, and a nice restaurant on the roof.
Great staff very helpful, location difficult to find initially from railway station, had to pay locals to show me location, would return again.

Great location. Clean for Indian standards. Helpful staff!
Decent guest house in old town. Very difficult to find. My partner and I paid extra for a room with AC, which at 1500Rs per night was a bit overpriced. We have paid this amount in other places throughout India and the hotels were a higher standard. The owner was very friendly and the room was comfortable - the bathroom however was a dirty, smelly and had the shower poorly located in a corner (very awkward if, like e, you are tall). Food was reasonably priced and tasty. Near Lotus Lounge (good)
really nice staff at the hostel, the hostel is a bit of a nightmare to find, but i suppose all of the hostels are in the back area of the old town!
