The service of the owner of the hotel was great. Nice view from the rooftop. Food in the restaurant was good too. Rooms are small and basic. Location is very close to the Ghats, coming from the airport the taxi leaves you about 15 minute wall from the Guest House, somebody from the town guided to get there. You will see a lot of monkeys.
The hostel is ok but not worth the money. The ac rooms are ok but you can get rooms without ac a lot cheaper.

Shiva Guesthouse was so welcoming- on our first night we arrived late but the staff knew we'd be tired and made us dinner, which was so lovely. They are really amazing cooks! We were in Varanasi to celebrate Holi and the staff put on a massive party for us on the rooftop, we saw them preparing all night beforehand, and the whole day was such fun. They worked tirelessly to give us the best experience. Staff are really friendly, felt like returning to old family friends.
Great guesthouse in the best location of Varanasi. Closely managed by a lovely family who is always very kind and available for a good chat. A plus is the terrace restaurant with delicious fresh food at any time at honest prices. Definitely recommended!
The guesthouse was a little hard to find but once we worked it out all was good. Everything was as we expected having been in India for a while. Nice and close to what we wanted to see.
- Very pleasure, I liked a lot. Congratulations.
This is a great plavce to stay in Varanasi. Literally 2 mins from Munshi Ghat and the river. The restaurant is good and really cheap and the views from the roof top are stunning. Great atmosphere and very helpful staff!
Good location, close to Ghats. Restaurant on the roof was very cheap and the food was really nice. Enjoyed our stay.
Nice guesthouse with a nice roof top to sit out on and restaurant with yummy thali! As with all guesthouses in the old town it is hard to find at first so try to book transport with them (late trains never help with this though!!) otherwise good location for the main ghats. The four bed dorm was small but adequate and clean
close to the ghats, rooftop restaurant, lots of backpackers also stay here. might be difficult to find late at night
We booked a room with a private onsuite. We arrive in the morning and the owner had given our room away. After rearranging the rooms he gave us a private room with shared facilities (only a squat toilet) as this was the only room they had left. When checking out the owner had charged us for the private ensuite. I complained and argued but according to the owner it was my fault that we were being overcharged as we didn't make it clear when we arrived we wanted a private ensuite. WHATEVER!!
Good Place and nice people. Cheap dorm too. The food from restaurant was utterly amazing and very well priced!
Good location with a cool roof terrace - views of the Ganges and city. Friendly staff and a decent restaurant too...
Nice family running hotel. Location is perfect - on the riverside, very close to all main ghats. Very clean. Staff is very kindly and helpful. Good kitchen on the rooftop - I recommend to take breakfast and dinner here, becase it is difficult to find a good place to eat in the city. Rooms and bathrooms are narrow. Facilities are average - sometimes there was no hot water (during blackout), no towels, no soap, no toilet paper - bring your own.
Great location, few minutes walking to the river and main ghat. Friendly and helpful staff. Be careful with the autorickshaw drivers, they will probably take you to another guesthouse with similar name, where they will get a comission.
Shiva guest house gave my room to previous guests who need to extended their stay in Varanasi and offered us to used the staff living room for sleeping!! That was an unacceptable thing indeed!! When I insisted not to stay at their living room , they sent us to another guest house which was very far away from the ghat and the worst thing was the room was very dirty and poor maintenance. It was the horrible experience for Shiva guesthouse. Avoid this guesthouse if you want a confirm booking.
Good płace with nice atmosphere. It is crucial to know exactly the way before the arrival. The easiest option is to go along the river to Munshi ghat and up the steep steps which are on the left, if you are facing the city. Then continue straight along a narrow winding passage.
