I stayed for two nights in a 6 bed mixed dorm - it was bearable but I wouldn't recommend it to friends. It was probably a decent hostel once. Unfortunately now it is really run down, too small for the number of guests, and a lot of things are broken/on the verge of breaking. It is in the cheaper range, but really I would have thought they get enough money to pay a plumber to unclog at least one of the sinks (etc.)..

Staff very helpful and friendly on arrival. The room was really nice and in a quiet, but centre of town location. Check in and out was efficient and I would thoroughly recommend staying there.

Toilets/showers could be cleaned more often. Overall, excellent place to stay, great staff working there!

A nice hostel the younger staff members at reception were lovely and helpful (didn't find the older staff very nice or friendly!) nice kitchen and a great location. The dorms are very tight though and they have draws under the beds for the bunks but out of 6 only 1 would actually pull out so bags had to literally be left in the middle of the floor. Good showers and a great beer garden!

We had a private room which was really nice. Great to have a fan in the room and own bathroom. The hostel had live music outside our first night which was great. the staff were really friendly and helpful. Ps. The chill meal deal is a must.

Hostel was fine, kitchen could do with some improvements - cooking wasn't easy. Had to pay for wifi but wasn't too expensive. All your companies pick up from the hostel which is great. Would probably stay again if in the area.

Absolutely loved Taupo Urban retreat! The staff were so helpful and never got sick of answering our millions of questions and were happy to recommend places to eat and activities to do. We were very sad when it came time to leave!

I stayed in 8 people mixed dorm. Due to the stuffs of one of the room-mate very smelly, it made me feel uncomfortable and I asked for change room, but the staff said it was fully booked. So I have no choice to continue stayed in the room for 3 nights. The bath room is not clean.

The mattress was pretty awful- could feel every spring. Ended up sleeping on top of the duvet and it made it much more comfy. The air cond. was so loud- if I didn't have ear plugs it would have been a miserable night. The kitchen was big but no oven limited what you cook and it was a bit chaotic during meals. The garden is really nice and location wasn't bad. Internet was worth the $2. Having the showers spread out made checking which one was free awkward. Girls at reception were super nice.

We booked this hostel after hiring bikes from them (cheapest place!) and deciding to stay an extra night in Taupo. Rooms were basic but lockers under bed were good, and bathrooms were fine. Kitchen was small between everyone and not much equipment to use, but nice big communal area that's easy to meet people. Location is ideal too, right in town and a few minutes from lake. Best part of the stay was the staff, who were all awesome and always had a smile on their faces and were happy to help!

didn't spend enough time to enjoy the facilities too much, but very friendly staff, clean rooms, great having parking at the back

A terrific place to stay, convenient to bus stops, hot springs, and the lake. The staff are very helpful in making arrangements and in making rearrangements, as the weather requires. It was a bit odd to be charged to use the hostel space after checking out, but I do understand the reasoning there.

Good location, friendly staff, cheap happy hour beers. Kitchen is a bit small. Would stay again.
