I'm not a fan of hostels that do everything (restaurant, bar, bus tickets, tours, etc.), but the price was good and the beds are clean. The staff is wonderful, they're very helpful and they don't try to push any of their expensive services onto you.

One of my favourite stays in China. Staff friendly, excellent atmosphere. Felt very relaxed here.

After the bus drop us at east gate instead of west gate on eve of labor day, arriving the Jade Emu was definitely sweet home to stretch my legs after the long walk. A typical Chinese traditional family house busy with seasoned global travelers sharing lively news and interesting information. Love it !

Nice place to stay in Dali. Rooms are big and clean, staff is nice and helpful. Location is ok, 5 minutes walk to the ancient town. Food is good but a bit expensive and it takes forever to get your order (we waited longer than an hour to get scrambled eggs, 3 orange juices and 2 toasts with jam).

One of the best hostels we have stayed at in China. Great location, impeccable facilities, near-faultless domestic staff who are both friendly and helpful, and comprehensive information provided in both Mandarin and English (as you would expect from a Chinese/Australian co-owned hostel). Only criticism I will make is that the seemingly self-important management and their expat cronies do nothing to contribute to a welcoming, convivial atmosphere when they treat the Chinese staff so imperiously.

I had a great time stay there. Excellent place with good security and facilities. That amazing communal area is full of backpackers with whom you can talk and exchange stories. Lovely owners offer a lot tours booking, ticket booking, and information to traveler. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and cutie!!! 小米?叶文辉?晓松? others didn't tell me their name :) The bed was super comfortable. Definitely will be just staying at Jade Emu in Dali!!!

Excellent hostel, the staff is amazing (they're all solo nice, helpful, friendly...), the location is good (right by the Old Town), all the rooms are very comfortable, and the food is excellent. An amazing experience overall!

Everything about the hostel is pretty much great! The room had everything you need and is extremely comfortable. We loved the DVD player and abundant amount of DVDs you can borrow to watch. The only thing that they can improve on is maybe regulating a smoking zone in their restaurant and maybe reorganizing their laundry area. You can do laundry for free which is awesome, but there isnt much room to hang your clothings.

This is an excellent place to stay in Dali, which is very convenient for all the local sites, but set in a quiet and relaxing little nook. Staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly and go the extra mile to support your travel needs. The accommodation is of very high quality and represents excellent value. A top destination for anyone visiting this area.

I had a great time staying at this hostel. The staff were great and very helpful. The hostel is in a good location and has a great atmosphere. The lockers have chargers in them which can be handy. The food was good but a bit expensive. The only real negative was the tiny shower squished in with the toilet, but the water was lovely and warm.

Among all the hostels I haves stayed at in China so far, Jade Emu by far has the best facilites. My only complaint would be the low water pressure in the showers, but that seems to be a problem throughout the region any way. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Rooms have ample lights and functional TV with DVD player. Bathrooms are well supplied with all the toileteries needed. It even comes with a HAIR DRYER! Heat blankets worked really well. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Loud people in the bar (next to the rooms) until late. Can't sleep. Bunks above wobbles the bed below. Wi-fi is a joke. Too many home comforts to protect those who like the idea of travel if everything was like home. Not a hostel for real travellers. No character and terrible service. I waited over 1 hour for a watery-bowl of porridge! The food is terrible quality and overpriced. They forgot my order more than 3 times. In the end, I got foot poisoning (sickness & diarrhoea) from the hostel food

I only have positive things to say about this hostel. It's a great place to chill but it's also very close to the ancient city where you can shop for souvenirs and rent bikes for the day (which I highly recommend). The Jade Emu and Jade Roo offer a lot of tours, activities, and information to help travelers enjoy their time in Dali. I would definitely stay there again if I go back. The rooms were very clean and there are secure (if small) lockers under the beds. The staff is helpful.

One of the best hostels we've stayed in! The staff is excellent: knowledgable, friendly, helpful (especially when assisting in booking train/bus tickets over Chinese New Year) We were able to leave our climbing gear for a week (locked up) no fuss-this is invaluable for climbers making short visits to other cities with no climbing. The location is just across the road from Old Town, providing a quiet night, whilst being close to restaurants, bars, shops.

Very nice and good hostel. the staff is helpful and very friendly. It's not direct in the old town (just 2 minutes) and so it's quite there. the bathrooms and rooms are clean. especially the beds are very good

Great hostel overall: ownership of excellence and integrity and a helpful and cheerful staff. However, there are cleanliness and room quality issues on the upper level rooms. Renovation to deal with poor insulation is necessary to avoid bug infestation and other undesirables. I hope to see this problem solved in the next few months. Otherwise, a fantastic hostel to stay in for travels in Dali
