Staff in this hostel is excellent, they are friends between themselves, and with everybody else the same way. It feels like visiting friends, not staying in a hostel. The place itself is big, so people who likes privacy will find a quiet corner, but its so easy to socialize!

Very comfortable hostel. Pretty much what it says on the page, a place to meet interesting people, great choice of music! the hostel has a sort of Caribbean island style, very laid back, colourful.

Make sure you always have some ladies in your staff team. A hostel run by a couple of guys is going to turn into a dirty place. Bathrooms and room not clean, booked a private room and got something next to the kitchen that looked more like a cupboard, smelly, damp and next to the toilet. When staff is off ( which you can't tell ) they will simply ignore you or tell you " can't you see i'm not working' . All and all a very poor experience, there other hostels down the road that look a lot better.

Thank you for your review and suggestions. But, I have to say it seems quite exaggerated. You booked 'basic double private with shared bathroom'. The room is 3x2,5m, has comfortable double bed, reasonable space for luggage, has its own door with own key, has toilet next to it yes, it's definitely not damp (Caribbean is a humid environment). Toilet gets cleaned regularly through-out every day, room also before every arrival, newly washed sheets are put in, no exceptions. We do have ladies on our team and one of them is a cleaner (best we've ever had). Our staff works and lives here, so if you go around asking people off duty you normally get send to reception, no harm meant. Interestingly enough, 2 days ago I came back from traveling around south of Mexico and after all the places I stayed at I felt like a king here, it feels so clean and comfortable (point of view). Comparison with others hardly count when you haven't stayed there, knowing Playa we are confident to have the best overall value. Thank you for your stay and sorry for the inconveniences.

What does it exactly mean 'jeering'? Some of our staff speak basic English, sufficient to communicate, but it might seem sometimes that it's not polite enough, I can assure you there was no harm meant. We are friendly and treat every newcomer in an informal way. I'm sorry if you felt uncomfortable in that position. Thank you for your stay.

was there just before New Years, so it was expensive(300MXN per night), but still the cheapest hostel in Playa. Saddly only parking in on the street. They had lockers and closed the gate at night, but no 24 hour security. The staff will help you with everything and is very friendly. The hostel was clean. Saddly just a small fan in the room. No a/c which wasn't a big deal, but a better fan would be nice.

If the price seems expensive, why did you book with us? We try to keep our prices low and they are lower than most hostels in Playa del Carmen. But if you travel between Christmas and New Year, prices are higher than usual everywhere. Breakfast is basic, but free. If you want more we can advise you about excellent cafe close by. We clean twice a day and it's sufficiently clean considering 110% occupancy during recent weeks. I'm sorry if we (the staff) weren't as nice as you might have expected. We have a lot of work recently and very little sleep, I wish we could spend more leisure time with all of you guys. Thank you for your stay.

When I paid and saw the rooms I wanted my money back, first the lock did'n work, the bunk beds moved so much that you felt they were gonna fall over you, it smelt really bad and looked dirty. They never cleaned our room and the barthroom was also dirty. For breakfast we were asked to take only 2 slices of bread and 1 cup of coffee, what?? The owner was sort of 'helpful' but rude at some point, they have a lot of workers and not all of them are nice with the guests, I wouldn't recommend it.

Good, now that you said it I could go to the room and repair it all. It took 30 minutes to repair the beds, the cleaning staff which for some reason ignored your room is not working anymore, the lock I repaired on the spot when you were there. Next time if you are not satisfied with something it's more useful to say it, rather than dread it and after 2 weeks write your heart on internet. We are not magicians and don't sleep in the rooms, so don't make mistake by thinking we would have faulty facilities or dirty rooms on purpose. If you travel during Christmas and new years holidays it's normal that rooms are full of (sometimes smelly) people and facilities break and need repairing/replacing. Also, we are only people and with the amount of crowds during these periods are working on 120% to keep everything in order, if we seem not as friendly, it's because have no time. Our free breakfast is continental, so exactly that - 2 toasts with jam and coffee, it's no secret, we can also have no breakfast, or if you want bacon and eggs there is an excellent cafe around the corner. Thank you for staying with us, and I'm sorry for the inconveniences.

The boss was quite unfriendly. The staff was helpful. The room seems that it was not cleaned for days. If we haven't payed in advance we would have changed the hostel for sure. In the whole hostel were a lot of signs, which pointed that there is the responsibility to keep the hostel clean and this gave us the feeling that we should clean up the whole hostel rather to put away our things we used.

Dear reviewer, it's hard to reply as I don't remember any encounter with you, there is no boss here, we are all working. Also many guests-friends we made over our history found me anything but unfriendly. About cleanliness, we have a cleaning service, twice a day during busy periods, we clean everything through-out. The problem we encountered is more about people coming here to party leaving everything on the floor rather than bin, so half an hour after cleaning it unfortunately all looks more less the same. But it is an exception, 2-3 weeks in a year, when it's impossible to keep everything in normal standard, but we are happy that people have fun and are enjoying their time. We don't want to spoil it by constantly following them around like police. About the signs, I have no idea where you have seen that, cleaning is our responsibility and as I said, we do it regularly. Thank you for your stay and I'm sorry for the inconveniences.
