My concern is not with the hostel, but with hostelworld. You booked me on the wrong date, and failed to respond to my email request that it be changed. Additionally, it is very difficult to contact your office because I live in the United States and we are behind GMT - so there needs to be a more efficient way of contact. Fortunately, the Y accommodated the mix up in dates, and because I get the room I want for 20% less, I will book through Hostelworld again.

Some one took a doody in the urinal. I believe this is called a showcase, according to urban dictionary. The wall outlets didn't work. The whole place or at least the floor i was on was under construction... Do yourself favor and don't waste your money here. I too thought i would be able to tolerate the filthy conditions, but quickly checked out the remaining nights there. Great location, but that is all.

Hallways were dirty and smelly. Poor lighting and beds may as well have been bare wood.

Great place. Best location and very goodt value. The best thing is YMCA has no taxes! Staff were very helpful. The beds are big enough for a couple (we just both slept in the lower bunk instead of sleeping on the bunk beds). Downs are they were doing renovations and the bathrooms are disgusting (YMCA please clean your bathrooms!!). But the plus definitely outweight the minuses, you aren't in NYC to sit in your room. Stay here.

I was happy to get this good deal at West Side YMCA. I used the workout room which was excellent. The small bathroom with not changing area by the stall showers was quite awkward. In fact, the only sinks were right next to the shower.

Staff was very unfriendly and didn't even answer properly on normal questions. Our floor was under construction, very dirty and noisy. The Bathrooms were a complete mess, nobody ever cleaned them properly, screws and nails were lying on the floor. The smell was awful! The room was small and dark but at least the linen were clean and changed regularly. Invest a few more bucks and get a better place to stay at!

The toilets were clogged in the morning after our night's stay. "Shared private bathroom" is a misnomer; it's public, more like a dorm, with no privacy in shower, no place to put stuff, no hooks, etc. YUK! I've stayed here before and love it despite the small room. I'll never again opt for bunk beds and shared bath. MUST be private double bed and bathroom. The smallness is not an issue for a night or two.

You should make Internet available in rooms.

It is great to stay here because you can use the pool and gym. There is a cafe on the main floor, too. It is across the street from Central Park and you can walk to Lincoln Center and to the Theatre District. The rooms booked on Hostelworld have not yet been upgraded. The room is FINE, the shared bathroom is not fine, depending on who else is on the floor. The rooms on the upper floor that you book with the Y are much nicer and you have a private/shared bath.

I had a nice stay! Very good location just by central park, and extra plus for the free aining that is available (lots of different activitys lika yoga, aerobics etc as well as gym and a pool. Did not try the pool though!) The room was small and dirty och there were rebuildings all over our floor, with people in the hallway all the time. But I liked the atmosphere and if you like me dont care so much about dirty floors I would recommend the place for you! The staff was nice and the atmosphere!

Bathroom on 10th floor atrocious. Ceiling falling down. One urinal broken. One shower broken. No water half the time. No trash bin so some people just threw their trash anywhere. 50 people have to share this bathroom. Some of the other floors have been repainted recently and seem more inviting. But I believe school tours have priority on those floors. People should negotiate for the better locations. Nice location. The air conditioning was welcome on very hot days.

Mice in the hotel's lobby, bugs in the bathroom and really strange people aparently living there. Locatiion is very good! When i was there, taking a very cold shower, thought that only prision could be worse.

It was fine. You didn't pick up on the fact that I changed by reservation to just on night...anyway nice helpful staff, bath down the hall OK...pretty small.. Room twice the size of the bed! Store you bag in the lobby for a dollar a day! Nice seating around the lobby for resting, snacking. It rained but no problem I had my San Francisco Chronicle Snoopy comics umbrella... Ray Fisher

It's exactly what you paid for. Perfect location and facilities. Unfortunately they forgot to let the guests know ahead of time about their renovation on the building. It's terrible. Rooms and corridors as well as the bathroom filthy dirty. The contractor starting to work as early as 07:00 Am right at your door and talking really loud, no respect for the paying customer at all. I got an allergic asthma attack from the fresh paint they were using at 07:30 am, no warnings about it.

The room we had was very poor, and could need some paint and new furnitures. Outside the window was a very loud ventilationsystem , and the light was automaticly switched on, even in the night, if one of us was mooving a little. The bathroom was very poor too, with only three toilets and showers for all the rooms on the 9th level. We had free entrance to the fitneslocations, witch was fantastic.-big, clean and we could follow all the classes we wanted. The location was great.

A great place to stay for the location/price. Pros: excellent location, close to Broadway, Central Park, American Museum of Natural History, metro, Times Square. I saw some reviews about the bathrooms being dirty, but I thought they were always clean. Employees very polite and helpful. Cons: bedrooms too small, and without WiFi, only three showers per floor, passwords for the women bathroom known by men (does not make sense to me). Since you just need a place to sleep while in NY, good deal.

Location is really great - it's literally right by Central Park, but the room I stayed in was fairly horrible, small and smelled. The bathroom was dirty and the shared showers had NO privacy!
