Throughout the year, thousands of visitors from across Europe travel here for world-famous music festivals, cultural events and unique local celebrations. Hostel Roots is the perfect base for events such as Roadburn, Tilburg's internationally acclaimed underground music festival, Best Kept Secret, Draaimolen Festival, Intents Festival, Rebirth Festival, Decibel Outdoor and Awakenings. Many of these festivals are easily accessible from the hostel by public transport, bike or shuttle services. Roadburn in particular attracts visitors from all over the world and has become one of the most internationally recognised festivals in the city.

Looking for something uniquely Tilburg? Experience the legendary Tilburg Fair (Tilburgse Kermis), the largest Fun Fair in the Benelux and one of the biggest city festivals in Europe, transforming the entire city centre into a week-long celebration every summer, with the highlight of the Pink Monday. Some of team Roots favorite moments of the year are the celebrations that bring Tilburg together. Every July, the city turns pink during Roze Maandag (Pink Monday), one of the largest and most inclusive LGBTQ+ celebrations in the Netherlands. The welcoming atmosphere, colourful celebrations and positive energy throughout the city make it a special day that our team looks forward to every year.

Another local tradition close to our hearts is Carnival in Kruikenstad – as Tilburg is known during Carnival season. For a few days, the city transforms into one big orange & green (the colors of Tilburg during Carnival) celebration filled with music, creativity, costumes and local traditions. The festive spirit is contagious, and visitors are warmly welcomed to join the fun, whether it's their first Carnival or their fiftieth.

Hostel Roots was founded by local couple Koen and Marion, passionate travellers who spent years exploring cities, hostels and hotels around the world. Inspired by the people they met, the stories they collected and the places that made them feel at home, they returned to their own roots in Tilburg with a dream: to create a hostel that combines comfort, character and genuine hospitality.

What started as an ambitious idea grew into Tilburg's first hostel, housed in a beautifully transformed former bank building in the heart of the city.
Today, Hostel Roots is much more than just Koen and Marion's dream. Our dedicated international team brings the hostel to life every single day. Coming from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, they create the welcoming, open-minded and social atmosphere that guests remember long after they've checked out. Whether it's sharing local tips, organizing activities, recommending hidden gems or simply having a chat over a drink, our team helps turn a stay into an experience.
