I chose this hostel because it was convenient. It is near the ADO bus station, ferry, and a big Walmart for picking up food. It is also near the beach. The environment is pleasant and basic. The kitchen is maintained clean, the bathrooms are adequately clean, there is a small swimming pool (that I didn't go into). Once outside the hostel there are numerous stores and restaurants. The bed was comfy, bedside lockers could use work but no big deal.

For me, this is not a genuine back packer hostel (more long stay latinos). The kitchen is tired. No coffee in the morning, as advised. Showers on top floor have no hot water. And cold water barely enough pressure for a shower. Pillow slips not clean. Private rooms hot. AC comes on at 10pm then freezes you in middle of the night. The wifi sucks. Only available in the kitchen and it barely works. Good location. Secure. Cheap? Would not stay here again.

This is a basic Hostel in "downtown" Playa Del Carmen. It's simple and easy to be in. There is a full time attendant who watches over the operations and is supportive of questions. Lots of beds in each dorm but all went well, lockers were appropriate, and each bed has a light and power outlet. Delightfully AC during the sleeping time. There is a swimming pool (I didn't use), and location is great.
