Om

We are a non profit organization and social enterprise that funds Casa Guatemala; an impoverished region of Rio Dulce supporting over 30 indigenous villages with education, medical and nutritional services.

Backpackers Hotel and Restaurant/Bar is located in the heart of Rio Dulce under the famous bridge, and we are only 5 min ride from the bus station.

Our hostel has basic eco-style accommodations which offer affordable rates, and friendly staff. We also have a beautiful dock for swimming on the river, and also where we book tours/shuttles for our guests to explore the area. We have basic rooms in a beautiful location. We have a book swap area, foyer area with wifi, and free drinking water. We do NOT have a kitchen for our hostel guests at this time. We do have a fridge for our guests to store their food in during their stay. Please note that we have loud music in the bar on Thursdays Friday and Saturdays until 1am with Karaoke and a DJ for singing and dancing! We also make the best Michelada in town! Our staff can help you to reserve boat or bus transportation and we have a wall size map of the area so you can plan your next adventure!

They really do play music until 1am on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. And then a rooster will wake you up at 4am. The curtains are almost entirely see through. There are also only two hooks in the room, so if you want anything to dry--swimsuits, swim towels, etc. consider bringing a clothesline to string up. Being so close to the river is amazing and this is definitely the cheapest place you'll find. Worth it for a few days for sure.

Fine place for a bed for the night close to where you get dropped off by the buss for the price you can’t expect anymore

This was just fine. I needed to spend one night in Rio Dulce to catch an early morning shuttle. There isn't a common area to hang out and meet other guests. A man came looking for me for money (long story) and I didn't like that the staff allowed him to look for me in my room. I felt unsafe exiting the bathroom to men waiting for me. But she was also very helpful navigating that scary situation afterwards. The room was comfortable, there was no one around. It was very loud at night with trucks on the bridge and chickens all night, so wear earplugs/don't expect a quiet night. Breakfast opened at 7:00 and I had an 8:00 shuttle so I assumed I could have breakfast but the kitchen said they couldn't serve me in time since they had a group of 20. That was disappointing. So overall it served its purpose but nothing to write home about.
