Rusalka

Antonín Dvořák’s Rusalka presents a modern retelling of a classic myth, set against the contrasting backdrops of the Louisiana coast and city life. The story follows a water nymph who falls for a prince and makes a dangerous pact to become human, blending timeless themes with a fresh, vivid setting. You’ll experience a richly layered score blending impressionism, expressionism, and Slavic folk influences, highlighted by the haunting “Song to the Moon,” in a production of mystique and elegance. The opera’s blend of musical styles creates a textured soundscape that deepens the emotional impact of the story. Whether drawn to the dramatic narrative or lush orchestration, you’ll find moments that linger long after the final note. The contrast between the swampy environment and the prince’s city life adds unique visual and thematic tension, making the experience immersive and memorable. It’s a compelling choice for those who appreciate opera balancing mythic storytelling with contemporary sensibilities.
