Rui Macedo: Horizon Line

Rui Macedo’s Horizon Line invites you to explore a blend of contemporary art and history within the Peniche Fortress political prison. The exhibition is set in the former prison kitchens, where the original setting remains intact, adding depth to the experience. Through painting, installation, and architectural elements, the work reflects on themes like repression, resistance, freedom, and dignity. Visitors move through a space that encourages reflection on the past while engaging with the present. The use of the prison’s architecture creates a striking dialogue between the artwork and its surroundings. This site-specific approach deepens the impact of the themes, making the experience intimate and thought-provoking. Whether interested in history, art, or social issues, the exhibition offers a chance to connect with complex stories in a thoughtful setting. It’s a quiet but compelling way to consider resilience and hope in unexpected forms.
