Top Events Montevideo, Uruguay

If you're heading to Montevideo, especially around the start of the year, get ready for some serious street culture. The city hosts the world's longest Carnival, a season packed with traditional candombe drumming parades and satirical murga theatre troupes that take over the neighbourhoods. In 2026, Montevideo has 66 events to explore, with plenty of free outdoor shows and local celebrations to catch.
Beyond the big festivals, there are always smaller gigs and local gatherings happening, often along the rambla or in the historic Ciudad Vieja. Staying in hostels keeps things budget-friendly and close to the action, and meeting other travellers is half the fun - you might even find a group to hit a candombe practice with. Montevideo in 2026 is rhythm, history, and a crowd you won't forget.
