Peacefully hidden within a rugged region just west of Sydney you’ll find the tranquil and refreshing World Heritage site, Blue Mountains. Fun fact alert: The Blue Mountains got its name from the blue haze that is created by the extensive eucalypt forests. You’ll feel like you’re in a different country compared to the relatively flat terrain of the land down under. Relax and unwind amongst the steep cliffs, forest and waterfalls that encompass the area.
Hostels in the Blue Mountains are immersed with nature and are sure to bring you some relaxation and a breath of fresh air (literally). You’ll be able to find rooms at budget prices in this World Heritage area, not bad if you ask me! You’ll find hostels closer to happy snapping locations like Katoomba falls and the iconic Three Sisters and others a bit more into the town. The hostels are all within an easy 20-minute walking radius from the Katoomba train station which makes travelling a whole bunch easier. Choosing a Blue Mountains hostel that is more centrally located will allow you to explore the town right from your doorstep. Seeing as the hostels are all within a close distance to one another, choosing a hostel that meets your needs will be a breeze.
Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation activities the Blue Mountains will not disappoint. Take a trip to the Blue Mountains to de-stress and declutter your head and spend your time taking relaxing nature walks and exploring the botanic gardens in Mount Tomah, even gather up some of your new hostel mates to have a chilled-out BBQ in the gardens. For those of you who enjoy tea parties hang out with Mrs Potts and friends at Bygone Beauty’s Treasured Teapot museum and tearooms. If you’re after adventure, you’ll love Scenic World where you can ride the world’s steepest incline passenger railway leading you to ancient rainforests and take a cable ride between cliff tops with a glass-floor. Explore the many magnificent caves and their subterranean rivers that lie within this World Heritage area, you might even spot some shy platypuses along the way together with other native wildlife. It kinda goes without saying, but during your stay here make sure you take the time to go to the ‘photo’ locations and really explore the beautiful ranges from multiple perspectives.
Transport around the Blue Mountains area is made easy with The Great Western Highway and railway running parallel across the region. Jump on one of two ‘hop on hop off’ busses, grab a cab, tag onto public buses or catch a shuttle bus that runs between the Katoomba Railway Station, the Three Sisters and Scenic World.
