#Ihatestandard

A journey does not begin at the gate, on the platform of the train or when you get into the car. It starts the moment you begin fantasizing about it. When you’re obsessively looking at a point on the map, while you read as much as you can about a destination on the internet , consulting books, guides even chatting with other travelers or natives about that dreamed-of place, you’re actually on your way.

If for whatever reason your way passes through Madrid, Bastardo is your destination. We aren’t a hotel, we aren’t a bar, we aren’t a creating space. We are all of that and so much more. We avoid pureness. Bastardo is a meeting point for visitors and locals in the city centre, between Malasaña and Chueca. A cultural laboratory always opened to the latest trends. An ecosystem created for your enjoyment where you can enjoy a concert, a screening of an avant-garde film, watch an exhibition, chat while having a drink and seeing the rooftops of Madrid in the background, share a good meal with friends and, of course, stay. In short, Bastardo is a watchtower from which to conquer this chaotic, mestizo, vibrant and hospitable city. Own it, it’s easy.
We know that no two trips are the same. That’s why we have options that will adapt to any needs or budgets: private or shared rooms, for those who travel alone, for couples, for groups, for families, with or without a terrace… Always with an exquisite design and special care for small details. Patti Smith, Luis Buñuel, Divine, Emiliano Zapata, Marie Curie, Confucius, Frida Kalho… each of our rooms pays tribute to characters who have gone off the beaten path, pioneers who have had the audacity to think and live differently. Bastard attitude.

But enough introductions. We’ll have time to get to know each other, right?

Welcome to Bastardo.

Overview

Bastardo Hostel in Madrid is creative, a little cheeky and ready to make an impression! We have a designer bar and a terrace bar, plus a cool common area if you're after group hangouts. We love hosting events and performers, too, like comedians and musicians, tango lessons and yoga classes. Our restaurant, Limbo, serves delicious BBQ bites washed down with local beers, including some made right here at Bastardo!

Location

It takes about 30 minutes to reach us from Barajas Airport. Get on line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios, then change for metro line 10 to Puerta del Sur. Exit at Tribunal and we're a 3-minute walk way. Ready to hit the shops? Grab your sunglasses and wander along shopping street Fuencarral. You'll be at Gran Via (known as Madrid's Broadway) in around 10 minutes. LGBT-friendly Chueca is a 4-minute stroll if you want colourful cafés and funky bars. The hostel, though, is in a quiet area – so you get the best of both worlds!

Rooms and Dorms

At Bastardo, we like to think differently – our rooms are named after pioneers who lived by their own rules: Frida Kahlo, Patti Smith, Divine. Choose a double room with a private bathroom (some doubles also have a terrace) or mixed dorms with an en-suite shower and toilet. All rooms come with free linen and most have free towels – otherwise you can hire one from us. Keep your space clear by storing your backpack in a handy locker. If you're travelling solo, we've got female-only dorms, too.

Extras and activities

We understand you're probably eager to crack open a cold cerveza after your journey to us – luckily we have express check-in (and check-out!) and no curfew. Take a free city map and find your way to the bars in Puerta del Sol. In the heat of midday, you can also take a break here at the hostel with refreshing air con, free tea and coffee and included Wi-Fi.

Bastardo is without a doubt one of the best hostels I've stayed at. The staff was always available to help and assist and I had no trouble checking in. Getting there was super easy, it is super close to the metro station and the location allows you to literally walk around the city. The room is structured in such a smart way. I was in a 6 beds dormitory and the beds are set up in a way that you don't annoy other people when moving around the room. Same goes for the bathroom and sinks area.

It was a great stay at the central of the city! Everything was good for me, kind staffs, comfy beds! The only thing I would say is that the water in the shower room didn’t ruin well, so I had to keep turning on/ off the shower. Otherwise it was all good for me!

I stayed here for one night on my own and it was alright! The facilities and security were good. And the location is AMAZING.. super close to the history of Madrid museum and the Romanticism museum, and there are loads of cool shops around. The only thing wrong was that my bedsheets hadn’t been changed since the last person stayed.. but everything else like the shower and toilet were spotless. But the staff were very nice!

This hostel has a lot of great perks such as: QR codes for going in/out instead of using physical keys. PERFECT location; many great shops and restaurants nearby, including museums. Right outside of the Tribunal station. Very clean. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Their pub crawl is THE BEST (on Saturday). The biggest con is that there is not really a common area; lobby is a restaurant/bar so you can't even tell who is actually a guest and who is just there for the restaurant/bar.

The QR keys provided great security -forgetting to lock the door wasn’t an issue! Luggage storage under beds do not fit an ordinary luggage size lock which was annoying. Hostel was clean and beds were large and comfy (I’m 6’2” for reference) compared to other hostel bunks. Charging station and bunk lights very handy. Small space between bunks and walls annoying. Organised pub crawl posters were all incorrect, advertising a start time 1 and a half hours early! Nice hostel. Would visit again.

One of the more unique hostels I've stayed Atmosphere - The downstairs is neat, it's a bar/restaurant and the breakfast was absolute fire. The bar is also cool, they have live acoustic going during the day which was cool. Security - They use QR codes on your phone, cool but not my favorite. Location - kinda far. Staff - Pretty great/helpful. Private Room - Hands down nicest hostel room I've stayed. All and all it's great but if you're looking for that classic hostel vibe not sure this is it

The quality was nice. Comfty bed and spacious bathroom/shower. Its a fine place if youre on a business trip in madrid. However if youre a solo traveler looking for something more communal then beware. The main floor is a restaurant/bar with accommodations for customers of said places. Whats left is a dark basement where the kitchen is located - its not very welcoming and its not really a good spot to meet anyone. Also the room was incredibly hot (even in Dec) and you cant open a window.

Good place if you stay a short time (1-2) nights. Pros: The rooms are nice. The layout of the beds provide some privacy. Nice bar/sitting area on 1st floor Location Cons: The kitchen is very, very small. It's a dark, windowless room in the basement and it doesn't have a stove. There is only one washer and dryer, and it's expensive (8 euros for wash/dry) The staff is unfriendly The lockers are small, so you can only really fit valuables in them. Also you must bring your own padlock.
