#Ihatestandard

A journey does not begin at the gate, on the platform of the train or when you get into the car. It starts the moment you begin fantasizing about it. When you’re obsessively looking at a point on the map, while you read as much as you can about a destination on the internet , consulting books, guides even chatting with other travelers or natives about that dreamed-of place, you’re actually on your way.

If for whatever reason your way passes through Madrid, Bastardo is your destination. We aren’t a hotel, we aren’t a bar, we aren’t a creating space. We are all of that and so much more. We avoid pureness. Bastardo is a meeting point for visitors and locals in the city centre, between Malasaña and Chueca. A cultural laboratory always opened to the latest trends. An ecosystem created for your enjoyment where you can enjoy a concert, a screening of an avant-garde film, watch an exhibition, chat while having a drink and seeing the rooftops of Madrid in the background, share a good meal with friends and, of course, stay. In short, Bastardo is a watchtower from which to conquer this chaotic, mestizo, vibrant and hospitable city. Own it, it’s easy.
We know that no two trips are the same. That’s why we have options that will adapt to any needs or budgets: private or shared rooms, for those who travel alone, for couples, for groups, for families, with or without a terrace… Always with an exquisite design and special care for small details. Patti Smith, Luis Buñuel, Divine, Emiliano Zapata, Marie Curie, Confucius, Frida Kalho… each of our rooms pays tribute to characters who have gone off the beaten path, pioneers who have had the audacity to think and live differently. Bastard attitude.

But enough introductions. We’ll have time to get to know each other, right?

Welcome to Bastardo.

Overview

Bastardo Hostel in Madrid is creative, a little cheeky and ready to make an impression! We have a designer bar and a terrace bar, plus a cool common area if you're after group hangouts. We love hosting events and performers, too, like comedians and musicians, tango lessons and yoga classes. Our restaurant, Limbo, serves delicious BBQ bites washed down with local beers, including some made right here at Bastardo!

Location

It takes about 30 minutes to reach us from Barajas Airport. Get on line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios, then change for metro line 10 to Puerta del Sur. Exit at Tribunal and we're a 3-minute walk way. Ready to hit the shops? Grab your sunglasses and wander along shopping street Fuencarral. You'll be at Gran Via (known as Madrid's Broadway) in around 10 minutes. LGBT-friendly Chueca is a 4-minute stroll if you want colourful cafés and funky bars. The hostel, though, is in a quiet area – so you get the best of both worlds!

Rooms and Dorms

At Bastardo, we like to think differently – our rooms are named after pioneers who lived by their own rules: Frida Kahlo, Patti Smith, Divine. Choose a double room with a private bathroom (some doubles also have a terrace) or mixed dorms with an en-suite shower and toilet. All rooms come with free linen and most have free towels – otherwise you can hire one from us. Keep your space clear by storing your backpack in a handy locker. If you're travelling solo, we've got female-only dorms, too.

Extras and activities

We understand you're probably eager to crack open a cold cerveza after your journey to us – luckily we have express check-in (and check-out!) and no curfew. Take a free city map and find your way to the bars in Puerta del Sol. In the heat of midday, you can also take a break here at the hostel with refreshing air con, free tea and coffee and included Wi-Fi.

I loved this hostel! Easy to get to from the airport, rooms were quiet and clean, the beds were soft, and the showers were nice and hot. The restaurant downstairs was incredibly convenient, and the food was REALLY good, and breakfast options were really cheap. The whole environment of the place was hip, industrial, and incredibly friendly *Note, check the hostel's actual website for booking, because sometimes they have discounts website won't give. Plus I got a nice 'extended stay' discount.

Super clean and comfortable. Felt very secure. The kitchen was a little lacking but very present! Easy to get to from the airport. I recommend booking on their website with breakfast included. I would stay here again, I really enjoyed it.

''Bastardo'' has a fun and lively atmosphere. Its rooms feel very secure and each room has its own bathroom and shower that all members of that room share. Very clean and looks nice. Just remember that the restaurant downstairs is open to the public so many people not from the hostel come to eat. This makes it difficult to meet other travelers if you are traveling alone. They offer a nice breakfast at a great value if you are a resident at the hostel. Friendly, helpful, and flexible staff!

The room had 6 beds, one toilet and 2 showers. I liked th fact that were build that way that was kind of private for each bunk bed. The location was great and was clean. People were friendly and downstairs had a bar restaurant. Also was cool that you didn’t need a key to get to the room n elevator you had a barcode in ur phone. The room was too hot at night n was kind of unpleasant especially for the beds upstairs and also the beds up were missing protective handles n were quite high.

Very good hostel with great staff! However there wasn't a lot of young people staying there over the Christmas period. Felt more like an oldies hostel. However they do have a very good party tour on offer! The rooms are great with your own shower and bathroom

The value for price was incredible, I've never been to a hostel with a better room set up. Instead of small room w/ 3 rickety bunk beds crammed inside, accompanied by the omnipresent stare of all the other people in the room- the rooms were set up so each bed (built into the wall and very comfortable/stable) was its own private nook. All the facilities were new and clean. My one thing to note is that it did not have the super social env. I'm used to, not great for friendly solo travellers

    Very Good

    01 Jan 2020
Cons: no complimentary coffee/tea/water and no coffee maker in kitchen, no full kitchen (fridge & microwave only), no private lounging/common areas for hostel guests - the lobby is basically a restaurant on 1 side & bar on other, only 1 washer/dryer available for a fee of 4Euro, towel or lock were extra expenses too. Pros: great central location, quiet, comfortable beds, good water pressure, clean.

I've stayed in this place multiple times over multiple days, and here are my thoughts: Pros: Cool architecture and design Some staff is very nice Good location Quite a lot of storage space under the bed. Cons: Breakfast is absolutely terrible for 5.5€, money is much better spent elsewhere Showers are nice.. if they worked. The drains are always clogged, sometimes you only get lukewarm water. Not nearly enough clothes racks/hangers, especially if full room.
