Bastardo Hostel in Madrid is creative, a little cheeky and ready to make an impression! We have a designer bar and a terrace bar, plus a cool common area if you're after group hangouts. We love hosting events and performers, too, like comedians and musicians, tango lessons and yoga classes. Our restaurant, Limbo, serves delicious BBQ bites washed down with local beers, including some made right here at Bastardo!

It takes about 30 minutes to reach us from Barajas Airport. Get on line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios, then change for metro line 10 to Puerta del Sur. Exit at Tribunal and we're a 3-minute walk way. Ready to hit the shops? Grab your sunglasses and wander along shopping street Fuencarral. You'll be at Gran Via (known as Madrid's Broadway) in around 10 minutes. LGBT-friendly Chueca is a 4-minute stroll if you want colourful cafés and funky bars. The hostel, though, is in a quiet area – so you get the best of both worlds!

Rooms and Dorms

At Bastardo, we like to think differently – our rooms are named after pioneers who lived by their own rules: Frida Kahlo, Patti Smith, Divine. Choose a double room with a private bathroom (some doubles also have a terrace) or mixed dorms with an en-suite shower and toilet. All rooms come with free linen and most have free towels – otherwise you can hire one from us. Keep your space clear by storing your backpack in a handy locker. If you're travelling solo, we've got female-only dorms, too.

Extras and activities

We understand you're probably eager to crack open a cold cerveza after your journey to us – luckily we have express check-in (and check-out!) and no curfew. Take a free city map and find your way to the bars in Puerta del Sol. In the heat of midday, you can also take a break here at the hostel with refreshing air con, free tea and coffee and included Wi-Fi.

Bastardo Hostel might be the most digitally advanced hostel I've ever been to. The main highlights of the place are the building itself, which is a mix-use project (with a pub, a restaurant and a hostel). Very modern, with an outstanding design. Very much recommended.

The location is soo good, you can get to anything and it’s an enjoyable area. The metro is wry close too. The decor is great, modern and edgy. The bar is overpriced and does not seem social at all. I wouldn’t recommend for solo travelers or those wanting to meet lots of people. The bunks are very segregated in each room, there’s lots of space and again everything is modern and clean. Each bed has power, light and a shelf. The building and room is accessible by a code on your phone.

Stayed for one night only, super nice facilities (bar and restaurant available) and excellent location, close to the metro. It was important for me to have a good trade-off between distance from the center and time to reach the airport, and this hostel fulfilled my needs.

Loved the decor but the atmosphere was not there didn’t meet not one person! Other than that the location is great and the hostel itself looks really nice with a great restaurant inside.

Easy to get to from the train station, lovely interior, your room and elevators are accessed by a QR code on your phone which was pretty convenient. Rooms are lovely, good interior design, the showers are quite nice. I had a lovely stay, though was nervous in my top bunk without a rail. Not a very social place though so plan for that if you’re solo travelling.

Large rooms with nice showers and sinks en-suite, the beds are spread out for good privacy. The A/C wasn’t working properly and there are no controls in the room so I had ask at the front desk twice. Still quite warm to sleep. The luggage drawers in the rooms are way too small. And the mobile keycard (barcode on your phone) is annoying.

A very ordinary experience, very little on offer for solo travellers and those interested in affordable experiences.

I had probably the worst experience I've ever had at ANY hotel or hostel before. I walked into the room to see one of my roommates doing something disturbing, and I let the staff know because I wanted to change rooms and they basically did not believe me and treated me with such disrespect. I felt very unsafe and I think it stemmed from the fact that I am a woman, and they completely took the man's side. I DO NOT recommend this hostel. On top of that, there was no soap in any of the bathrooms.
