I had such a great stay here! The staff were super informative and helpful. We organized a couple tours for the next couple of days and then I had the best sleep ever. Good atmosphere but I was just passing through for a night. Would definitely come back if I have to pass through San Jose again 🙏🏻

Great stay! My only criticism is that the pillows and beds have a sweaty old smell.

The price was good but no free breakfast so it would work out to be similar to other budget hostels. Free coffee. The woman behind the bar was extremely loud and obnoxious playing music competing with other noise in the kitchen and elsewhere. The rooms were clean and quiet but metal framework would make lots of noises if you bang your foot against any part of it besides the mattress. The bed was a foam-like material, curved and sloping to one side and really hurt my hips. Shower walls slimy.

Place is nice. Beds are clean and very comfortable. The place felt really safe. It's probably the best hostel and San Jose. It has that jungle feel and is very cute. Lots of hang out spots. I would recommend

I just stayed for one night and have to say that the atmosphere at the hostel was quite weird but I don't think that's the fault of the hostel, I just found some people there a bit irritating. The pool looks nice though and the beds were quite comfortable, but I have to say not that practical because the walls are made out of metal and if someone accidentally bumps into them, make quite a loud noise which really affected me. My bed was next to the door and so many people bumped into my walls.

    Very Good

It was a good vibe when we got there at night, nice atmosphere. The outside felt amazing, nice and cosy get together. Staff was nice but not actively helpful, if you don't ask you don't get kind of thing... We stayed on a 6 bed... Very simple rooms. Had lockers. Comfortable mattress.

im a very hard sleeper but the train was incredibly loud and woke me up every hour. The WiFi didn’t work in my room and there was no hot water. Not the best experience.

Our experience at Costa Rica Backpackers was far from expected. The pictures are misleading. The bathrooms are small and need to be cleaned way more often. The walls are thin so you hear everything. The locks on the doors are not secure. We are also uninformed that you must pay cash when checking in. While we managed for one night, this hostel is not somewhere I would stay for multiple nights, especially if you are on vacation or trying to relax.

DO NOT STAY HERE. The staff is rude, incompetent, and just plain dysfuncional. Upon arrival, they charged me for a key deposit. Upon departure, i tried to return the key and get my deposit back and the woman behind the desk refused to give it to me claiming i need to show her a paper recipet which they NEVER GAVE ME. She wouldn't budge. Basically, they stole my money, had a very dirty kitchen, and a dysfunctional staff. Seriously, dont stay here. There is much better hostels around.
