Freedom Hostels Rainbow Beach is a great base for K'gari tours, with a fantastic pool area and friendly staff. Some guests note the kitchen could be better equipped and rooms are basic, but it's ideal for short stays.

If you’re booking the Fraser island trip this is the best hostel to go to because the bus pick-up/drop off is right in front same about the Dingo’s tour. There’s a pool and bar and the rooms are basic but clean. For 1/2 nights its great not much to do in the area for more nights

Good for a night before or night after doing K’gari. The pool area is really nice and big and the pool is also big itself and can swim in/ play games in. Laundry facilities worked well along with a big washing line if the weather is good. Rooms pretty basic and with no lockers. Also only sheets provided and no proper covers so got quite chilly in the night. When I was there breakfast was served 45 mins late which made it quite a rush before the tour.

About Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is a coastal town located in the Wide-Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. Perhaps you’re wondering how its name came around? Well, it was originally known as Black Beach, however, it was later changed to Rainbow Beach due to the coloured sands near the town. It’s all about the stunning natural beauty here and if you fancy yourself as a rider, why not do a full moon horseback ride – seriously!

Rainbow Beach hostels are located in the city centre meaning you’ll be close to the attractions, pubs and restaurants. You’ll also be able to meet other travellers in the hostel pools and large common areas. Hostels will be able to help you book a trip to Fraser Island and the staff will give you all the tips you need on where to go and what to see. Air-con dorms are available, both female-only and mixed, or if you’re keen to be that little closer to nature, book a Rainbow Beach hostel tent.

You’ll find hostels centrally located in the town around Rainbow Beach making travelling around the town centre a breeze. This Sunshine Coast town is fairly sedate compared to its counterparts, but if you want to stay in the liveliest area head to Rainbow Beach Road. For stunning landscapes and coastal walks find a base near Carlo Sandblow and you’ll be able to experience the area’s most prized beauty. Most backpackers stay a night either before or after exploring Fraser Island.

Lovers of the outdoors, Rainbow Beach is right up your alley. For those who love the ocean and being on the water choose from kayak tours (you may see dolphins!), 4X4 drives across the sand, surf lessons on Australia’s longest wave and moonlit horse rides along the beach, to name a few. Those wanting to explore the nearby Fraser Island can hop on the Manta Ray Fraser Island Barge.

It’s easy to explore the town and coast via foot, however, if you get tired of walking or wish to get around at a faster pace why not hire a bike. Biking around the town is a popular option. Alternatively, should you ever be in need of a ride, just call a taxi. Get here on a backpacker bus or drive (around 2.5 hours) from Brisbane.
