Property Description

Winner of Hostelworld's Best Hostel In Colombia 2018 and Second in Latin America!

10 minutes from the Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) pickup point

25 minutes from Tayrona National Park (Zaino / Cañaveral entrance)

Please do not arrive after dark (6pm) as it is very difficult to find transport in Buritaca at night.

We offer accommodation in hammocks (our 11 bed dorm), each of which comes fully equipped with a pillow, blanket, power point, locker and mosquito net. We also have three 6 bed dorms, all en-suite, two with air-con, plus the 12 bed fan cooled dorm. Our private rooms come in the form of 7 gorgeous cabañas, each with a double size bed (that can be made into twins if needed!), safes and blankets.

Our hostel is set right in the middle of a stunning jungle, whilst some of Colombia’s best beaches are just a 30 minute walk away. We can organise surf board rentals and lessons with our friends down at All Good Surf, plus Palomino is just up the road.

At the hostel we have a ping pong table, a volleyball court, pool table and probably the best bar in South America, serving up cool mora gin & tonics, maracuyá vodka, soda’s and more. We’ve been known to host the odd party - check the social calendar on our website for more information!

Best hostel ever! Get ready to be free of the wifi and to make new friends, everyday lots of activities, nature around the hostel is awesome, food is delicious and very friendly and helpful staff. If you go to the Caribbean coast this place IS A MUST. Don't forget to pet Anja! ♡

Safe to say El Rio has been the best hostel I have stayed at. The staff were unreal, always making everyone feel welcome and part of their family. Topped off by great people at the hostel of the festive period this was hands down the highlight of my trip so far. It’s a must stay even if for just 1 or 2 nights. See you soon

Great party hostel! There's no kitchen but the food that's available is really good (slightly pricey). Do try to arrive during daylight hours, as the road leading to the hostel is rough.

El Rio is a great experience - remote, no wifi, and only a few activities to do for free, but it's a good place to connect with others and as a solo traveller I had no problems at all with meeting new friends. I slept in one of the beds above the hammocks and was quite comfortable. It'd be much nicer of course with wifi, but all in all I'd stay again. 2 nights was enough for me!

(++) - Nice hostel (clean, comfy, enough shower, outside vide, mosquito net, luggage storage) - Nice vibe (social areas well made, volleyball pitch...) - Food and cocktails are great! - Activities!! Pls continue organizing social evening activities :) (--) - The same type of traveler - No beach access, but in the end discovered there wasn't really beach hostels except in Tayrona itself as you there are strong currents - Relatively expensive for the experience - Price of the tubing, seriously?

Pros: unbelievable view, great facilities, and cool staff Cons: Christmas dinner kind of sucked and you are going to spend a lot of money since you can’t buy drinks/food anywhere else. Prepare to send 600,000 COP in 3 days
