Property Description

Generator Madrid is a design hotel-hostel located just steps from the Grand Via in the centre of the city. Guests can choose from shared dorms to private rooms, offering something for everyone. Complete with 24-hour reception, free wifi, restaurant and one of the best rooftop bars in the city, Generator is a fun and affordable choice in Madrid.

Located at the corner of Calle Silva and Calle San Bernardo, right off of the bustling Gran Via. The building is triangular in shape and was originally built in 1930 for residential use. After the Spanish Civil War ended, the area became much more commercially oriented, and the building was transformed into a parking lot with a gas station on the main level. The area has several representative buildings of the different times, with great historical and cultural value.

We are located in one of the best areas of Madrid, right near to some of the most renowned landmarks and attractions of the city such as Templo de Debod, Parque del Retiro and Puerta de Alcalá, amongst other interesting attractions that you can visit in Madrid.

We have several types of rooms in order to satisfy the needs of our guests and travellers. In this sense, we have both private and shared both accommodation options that will make the stay of our guests and travellers wonderful. On top of that, we have several common areas where the guests and travellers can get together and exchange past experiences and future plans.

Welcome to five storeys of classic Spanish design at Generator Madrid, a cool refurbished 1930s building! Our rooftop terrace has its own bar and is the perfect spot for a cocktail while you admire the view. We also have common areas where you can meet fellow globe-trotters if you're looking for a companion to see the sights (make your first stop El Rastro, the city's oldest flea market). Come back to your room – they're all en-suite here – take a hot shower and grab a snack from our café before heading out to sample the nightlife.

We're on the corner of Calle San Silva and Calle San Bernardo, just off Gran Vía (probably Madrid's most famous street). Getting here from Madrid–Barajas Airport takes around 40 minutes by metro. Take line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios then change to line 6, then line 2 and ride until Santo Domingo – we're a minute away on foot. One of Madrid's best treasures, Templo de Debod (a second-century Egyptian temple reassembled in Spain), is a 13-minute walk away.

Rooms and Dorms

We have private rooms, mixed dorms and female-only dorms all with free linen. To lighten your load for the flight, private rooms come with towels and you can hire them in all other rooms. Stash your backpack in your under-bed security locker (everything should fit in the large drawers). Bunks with reading lights mean you can snuggle down with a good novel even when everyone else is fast asleep.

Extras and activities

We have a great restaurant so just sit back, snap some Insta pics of our dishes and upload them using the free Wi-Fi. Need special access? We're wheelchair friendly and we also have an elevator to make getting around the hostel easy. Air con's on hand to keep you cool. Drop by our 24-hour reception for any tips on your way out to a night's clubbing at urban-music hotspot Shôko.

Excellent overnightstay whilst we visited to Madrid to check out plans for our school visit. Compared with the hostel the pupils were meant to be staying in Generator wiped the floor with them so much so we have asked the holiday company to move us to Generator! Fab urban shabby chic. Excellent location. Staff couldn't do enought. Polite, professional and friendly. Fabulous - would recommend to anyone - families, friends and SCHOOL PARTIES!! Many thanks.

Very clean, safe, and a great location. The front desk personnel were busy, but very kind. Personal connections must be sought out, and while the hostel was big, people seemed to use it as a sleeping place, not so much a place to hang out. For me, that was perfect on the day I visited, and even still, I did end up meeting a couple other people.

It's a truly great hostel, but you can't really relax. It has the overall feeling of an amusement park. It's ideal for young travelers or party animals. The cleaningless is superb and the staff truly great and helpful. They order a taxi for us at 5.15 so we don't lose our train! In most hostels I enjoy sitting in common areas sharing my food with people. In Generator everything is offered for a price but it misses the homie feeling of smaller establishments that you can actually sit and talk.

They have all the facilities you could want... except laundry, why do so many hostels not offer washing machines or laundry service? Very clean and modern. Staff are great, showers are great, rooms are great. The place just has no soul.

When I arrived at the hostel, the staff didn't welcome or acknowledge me and I stood by the counter for 20+ minutes waiting to be helped. Basic customer service goes a long way!

There was no AC in my private room at all and I paid 150€ for 2 days so it was expensive for such a crappy AC but the staff were beyond awesome because they saved the day when my phone died to make my flight so well appreciated of that

The place looks very appealing; however, it missed some things that in my opinion are at the heart of a good hostel. For example, the common areas are not very social and it's not as easy to make friends there like other hostels. FOOD: they do not allow food to be brought in and expect travellers to buy meals at their restaraunt. This is crazy considering the pricing. Initially, my room smelt of cigarettes and the light was broken but after I asked they moved me into another room.

Generator is fine for a place to crash for a few nights. The rooftop is a huge perk, nice hot tubs and plenty of seating. The location is right off of Gran Via and a very close walk to other attractions. The staff was not very friendly. It feels like Generator's priority is brand & business, versus hospitality. The lobby area was incredibly chaotic most of the time. They do not allow outside food or have a kitchen area. If you want to eat in the common areas, you have to purchase food from them.

The hostel is very modern. What bothered me the most about this hostel is that it does not say that it DOES NOT a provide a lock to a TOWEL and when I called I could not get anyone on the phone. To buy a lock is €5 and to RENT A TOWEL is €5 also. The room had a “smell” to it , not a dirty one but not a very clean one either. Floors in room aren’t the cleanest and the shower itself could be maintained a little better as well. Overall the hostel was very busy with travelers , mainly students
