Absolutely incredible stay. Hosts made you feel like you were family and right at home because it’s small. One night we did calligraphy and another night we learned how to make miso soup and onigiri and cooked together with the other guests. I actually had a series of medical issues while in Kanazawa and the hosts were so worried about me and helped translate stuff for me to get me to a hospital. They even let me stay an extra few hours past check out because I was unwell at no charge. Amazing!!

Amazing experience, a stay in a traditional japanese house with free activities like calligraphy, arigami, card games and tea ceremonies with the locals. One of the greatest experiences on our trip as we felt very welcomed and everyone was very friendly. If you are ever in Kanezawa, please consider Guest House Pongyi to be your choice if you want for a peaceful, quiet and very friendly experience.

So welcoming and cozy. The best places we stayed in the two weeks we where traveling Japan. Every evening when we came back, the staff was sitting in the common room, during there own things, ready to talk and help you out. Very comfortable beds, very nice use of an older japanese building for a guesthouse. Cannot recommend enough!

This was my 3rd trip to Japan, but my first to Kanazawa. Guest House Pongyi was probably the best hostel experience I've ever had! Masaki and Nina are the most welcoming hosts you'll ever have, and they also do a really good job of getting you to know the other guests. They took us grocery shopping, and then we all had nabe (hotpot). It was tons of fun, and really delicious! My only regret was that I couldn't stay longer.

So lovely to stay in a place where staff learn your name even if only for a short stay. Very welcoming and keen to introduce you to other travellers. A refreshing travel break to feel at home whilst far away from home.

A very traditional Japanese home where the hosts were extremely polite and welcoming. Every night they organised group activities with other guests. They were indeed very helpful to me. Would definitely stay here again if I’m visiting Kanazawa.

Nina-san and Masaki-san were very welcoming hosts and incredibly generous in sharing their time and resources to make it a memorable stay. They invited me to make origami, have our own informal tea ceremony, and go on a lovely tour of one of the geisha districts complete with explanations of the fundamentals of Shinto. This was all in addition to the standard tourism activities in Kanazawa that I also did.
