Native art-style paintings, sculptured walls and mosaics set the scene here at Hostal Rural. We're a magical place with hammocks and an outdoor terrace, plus a 'chill cave' for escaping the every day. Ask fellow travellers at our on-site bar about their favourite things to do in Chile (though they might just say it's staying here!). Every morning, grab breakfast for free or use our kitchen to fix yourself a custom snack. There's a BBQ too, and we do al-fresco grilling some evenings.

We're in a handy location just a block away from Caracoles, the main street in bohemian San Pedro de Atacama. Take a wander and choose from the many cafés for a frothy pisco sour. To get to us from El Loa Airport, make your way downtown to the Calama bus terminal (20 minutes by taxi). From here, the bus to San Pedro de Atacama takes about 90 minutes, then it's a 6-minute walk to Caracoles and a short stroll to the hostel. Follow Caracoles until the intersection with Calama, take a left and we're on the left-hand side.

Rooms and Dorms

Free linen and Wi-Fi help you save money for a tour out to Moon Valley. Our mixed dorms are super cosy, and you can store your valuables in small security lockers in the downstairs courtyard. We have great hot showers and there are towels for hire – handy after a day of desert trekking!

Extras and activities

Our staff can arrange trips to the Salar de Uyuni – the world's largest salt flat – as well as local tours. We can only accept cash (pesos chilenos), so do remember to exchange your money in town. We'll give you a free city map to help you find your way to the bank, as well as to other more interesting sites! We've also got a book exchange (great for those hammocks we mentioned) and cable TV for catching up with the outside world.

Great location, right around Main Street. Place to park right at the door. Staff ready helpful and loads of place to hang out. Kitchen is small and only has the basic, in case you are thinking about cooking. Only down is the terrible electronic music playing from 9pm-12am every night.

Lady at the reception loaned me cash so I could pay the other half of my tour. I was frantically running around town trying to get hold of cash but had no luck (Revolut card giving me problems). Really appreciated it.

A couple of the staff are really nice and the others I got on with too. Cool place and nice to chill. Breakfast was okay. Good location. Table tennis table!!! Good atmosphere- met a lot of people. Rooms are pretty good as is kitchen. Only things that annoyed me was that after 12 we were forced to be silent and we couldn’t drink are own alcohol there. Regardless would still really recommend!

Fantastic hostel. The staff are VERY helpful - on arrival they gave me a full tour, introduced me to all the other guests (by name) and talked me through all the tour options. Saturday night BBQ was a really nice way to get to know everyone. Wish I could have stayed longer :)

Was recommended this hostel by another traveller and wasn’t disappointed! Really nice and chilled, lots of friendly sociable people and super easy to meet people without it being overly “party hostel vibe”. Only downside is that it’s quite pricey but was overall worth it because of the people we met and experiences we had!

This is a really fun sociable hostel located in the centre of San Pedro. The common spaces are great with lots of seating, hammocks and a terrace with bar, and free ping pong and pool. They have social events most nights (bbqs/djs). Staff are all super friendly and helpful. The only thing that wasn’t as great was the dorm - we stayed in dorm 1 which was quite small, dark and very hot. Overall I’d definitely recommend staying here!

Alejandra (the receptionist) was the best, made this place great. She knows everyone’s names and always checking that everyone is happy. The hostel has a really sociable atmosphere and although some people says it’s a party one, it’s only on Saturday that it’s loud until late. Did some great trips with them too

    Very Good

Torn about this place. The atmosphere is great and the staff is nice, but somethings were just weird. 1- you can only drink what you buy there (which is an inflated price) 2- they want to be a party hostel, but aren't. They have rage music all at and night. But no one is partying because they have early tours the next day 3- rooms don't have fans or circulation. Everyone was complaining about how uncomfortable the rooms were So nice hostel, but avoid if you are trying to get any sleep
