I had a lovely stay at Ikiru! The guesthouse is spotlessly clean, and has security guards/a gate as well, so I felt very comfortable and safe there. Breakfast is DELICIOUS and you can choose what time you’d like it served to you. As others have mentioned, it is a bit further out into suburbia, but that means it’s calm and quiet, and the gojek/grab rides into the city center literally cost less than $1 USD and take only 10-15 minutes. Highly recommend this place!

Very clean, really friendly helpful staff, but a bit hard to find and far from things. Perfect if you’re in Surabaya for a night or two.

The room was nice and clean, with an ensuite which was a nice break from hostel living. The shower didn't regulate temperature very well and only had the setting to shoot water forwards and not down which was odd. There was a fridge you could store things, and buy soft drinks and beer. The staff were all friendly but weren't always at the desk so could be hard to find someone to ask something, I waited about 45 minutes to ask to stay an extra night and in the end gave up and left a note.

Hostel room and bathroom were clean, with decent air conditioning. Breakfast was a nice Indonesian dish provided by the caretaker. Hot water, coffee, and tea were available 24/7. Not much around neighborhood to explore, as Jalan Raya Ngagel Jaya (main road) lacks sidewalks to good walking areas to the city center where the submarine monument is located, or the Stasiun Gubeng Baru (main train station served by the national railroad, Kerata Api). Indonesia in general has open sewers.

A nice, clean place to rest for a night or two. Not so much of a hostel - as no other guests around, and I booked a 3 bed dorm and they tried to put into a shared twin room. The staff are lovely but don't speak much English. However if the manager is around she will go out of her way to help :)
