Property Description

Remarkably located in the heart of Chelsea, Midtown Manhattan. We are on-site 24/7 to make sure everybody is happy, peaceful and safe. This is a vegetarian place. No smoking, no alcohol, no meat/fish/egg products. No spitting on the floor. We use the profits from the guest rooms here to provide free hot meal for homeless people in the streets of New York City. Our guests are welcome to come to help with the meal distribution. It's a wonderful way to experience the happiness of giving.

Our location in the heart of Chelsea, West Side Manhattan (between 28th and 29th streets) is remarkable: we're within walking distance of Times Square, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, High-line Park, Central Park, and the world-famous Manhattan Theater District. Subway station is a 2 min walk. This neighborhood is very central and safe. It's known for its unique restaurants, shops, art galleries and theaters. You can get anywhere in the city quickly and easily from here.

Our hostel-style separate pod-rooms are simple, cozy, and very clean. Although small in size they are centered around a spacious common lounge area with free WiFi. Fresh, clean sheets, pillows towels and blankets are there for you. Bringing a pair of flip-flops to use in the bathroom would be a good idea.

These are good people who run this hostel. They were helpful with carrying my bags if needed and were thorough in making sure we were comfortable, and understood the rules of the facility. They also provided an abundance of fresh fruit and quick foods to make and that was unexpected and so kind! I am especially thankful because I had a medical incident right outside the front door and when they saw this on camera they immediately rushed down to help and cared about my safety. Thank you so much.

Great spot for a single traveler. Super nice staff and great quiet, safe environment. This is a shared space so folks are quiet and respectful which really appealed to me but if you are looking for a place to be social and network, not going to be the right fit. Clean and convenient- highly recommend!

Loved the quiet peaceful vibe here! Cosy closet-sized rooms of your own with unlimited snacks and fruits all day. Price is a little steep considering the location and being private rooms in midtown, but proceeds go to the homeless so it's great to stay for charitable reasons. Toilets/showers were clean and comfy. Only cons would be small rooms and open ceiling - ear plugs provided! Stayed here a night and enjoyed it, booked a longer stay after my return from DC. Thank you, Alex and co!

Great place for a few nights. The environment was homey and staff was welcoming. The room was really small but manageable.

Interfaith Retreats is a really interesting hotel - the walls between rooms are thin, luckily no-one was snoring or speaking on their phone late at night. However, a set of earplugs is provided just in case! The room is cosy, communal bathroom and toilet facilities are adequate, the free breakfast is really amazing, plus it's just a short walk (perhaps 10-15 minutes) to the nearest subway station. The front door of the building sometimes doesn't automatically lock when you leave - should fix it

Great stay for solo travelers under 6 feet tall. I'm 6'1 and was a little uncomfortable. Great place to catch some ZzzZ but no talking,. Making noise etc.. kinda rude staff (not Alex) when asking people to be quiet. I'd stay again if I was in a pinch. Super close to Madison square garden and Penn station.

It was overall a good experience that met my basic needs. The spiritual atmosphere was peaceful. I appreciated the variety of fruits and bread, but would have preferred cereal that was not mixed together with other cereals. I was put in a room where the not only the bed was too short for my 6-ft tall body, but the entire room was too short. Plus, the foam sleeping pad was broken down in the middle. The staff was accommodating and let me have a different room that fit better.

    Very Good

    21 Sep 2019
Two of the three staff I dealt with were very friendly. Some small additions would make a big difference. For example; an extra shelf and more hooks in the cabins. More hooks and shelves in the bathroom. Some paper towel in the bathroom. I did not expect to have to try to call/knock loudly to be able to check in - perhaps arrival information could be made more clear as not all travel with international phone cards. Lovely gesture of fruit and toast available for all guests.

I had higher hopes given the generally positive reviews. The rooms are tiny and open concept so you can hear every snore, cell phone beep, and zipper being zipped. There is only one bathroom with 3 stalls and two showers for the entire place. I would not recommend or stay there again even though the staff were extremely nice.
