La Chimba Hostel has been a favorite of international backpackers and wanderers visiting Santiago since we first opened in 2005. With all of Santiago’s popular attractions within walking distance and a bar full of like-minded travellers - La Chimba is the place to be for backpackers visiting Chile’s capital. Immerse yourself in Santiago’s historic past and soak up the atmosphere at this 100 year old house turned lively hostel in the heart of vibrant Barrio Bellavista.

Over the years our popular hostel has been distinguished with Hostelworld's HOSCAR award a number of times, including Best Hostel in Latin America and 3rd Best Hostel World-Wide.

La Chimba’s bustling bar is the place to be for cheap AF beer, daily drink specials, beer pong, events and hanging out with travellers from around the world. Our bar also features an art gallery displaying fine artwork from local and international artists.

Our central, artsy neighborhood is packed with the city’s best bars, restaurants and nightclubs. You will be five minute walks from ATMs, money exchange, grocery shops, fruit markets, handicrafts, tour agencies, fast food, coffee shops and even Taco Trucks. Additionally, Barrio Bellavista is served by the Baquedano Metro Hub Station which provides the most connectivity of the entire underground transportation system.

An eclectic place to stay in a bohemian neighbourhood of Santiago, La Chimba Hostel is made up of several buildings, each with their own character – some are quiet, some are social – but they're all connected by walkways, patios and courtyards. We have three living rooms, two well-equipped kitchens and a brand-new on-site bar, complete with cheap beer and good vibes. There's even an art gallery displaying works by local and international artists, so you can get your culture fix, socialise and chill all under one roof. Plus, we'll make sure every day gets off to a good (and budget-friendly) start with a tasty free breakfast.

We're in Barrio Bellavista, one of Santiago's liveliest neighbourhoods, packed with bars, restaurants and clubs. It's also just a short 10-minute walk to Plaza Italia, the bustling heart of Santiago, where you'll also find the Baquedano metro station, which provides access to the whole subway system. We're about a 25-minute drive from the airport – you can hop on the bus or we can arrange a car to come and pick you up.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got private single, double and twin rooms and mixed and female-only dorms. You'll have a locker for your bag, and no need to worry about bringing linen or towels – we'll give you both for free. Plus, our Wi-Fi is free, super-speedy and available throughout the hostel.

Extras and activities

Our friendly team is always on hand to suggest where to go to get an authentic experience of Santiago. The meeting point for the famous city pub crawl is in the bar across the street, and it never ventures more than four blocks from the hostel. We also organise a whole host of events of our own, including barbecues, dinners, salsa lessons, poker nights and walking tours. There's someone on reception 24 hours a day, so you're never without a helping hand. There's no curfew to worry about, either, so you can live Santiago's nightlife to the fullest.

very ideal location for visitors and party seekers but i found the noise extremely loud. The hostel gets noisy from 4pma nd the music doesnt stop till 5am sometimes. The music from the surrounding bars doesn't help either. I get that it's a prty hostel but the nosie within the hostel should be regulated

Stay here if you want to go out, don’t stay here if you want to sleep. It’s located in the middle of a lot of clubs and bars and even if you can sleep through the music, people will be going in and out of the room all night.

La Chimba is in a great neighbourhood with lots of cool bars. The big security doors seem to be secure but staff seem to buzz anyone in so that benefit seems to be illusory. Once we accidentally went into another room because our key (for a private room) opened another door which is a bit concerning. The staff were friendly but there was a big cohort of them who all hung out with one another at night rather than encouraging a more inclusive atmosphere

La Chimba Hostel says

I think Barrio Bellavista is arguably the most interesting district of Santiago, as far as cultural attractions and vibrant nightlife goes. The area is an oasis of colorful low-rise colonial architecture with leafy streets and a village-like atmosphere, and just a short walk to Plaza Italia, the Times Square of Santiago. The Baquedano Hub Metro station is located here and is the station that provides the most connectivity of the whole subway system. I particularly recommend visiting Cerro San Cristobal (the Metropolitan Park, a tall hill with a cable cart and amazing views of the city) and poet Pablo Neruda's former house, which is open to visitors. Both are less than two blocks away from our hostel. We can cater for people with disabilities and our hostel is suitable for independent solo travellers and couples seeking a social place to meet other travellers and experience Santiago's culture and nightlife.
