I stayed here 5 days and it was everything I needed and more! A great place to feel isolated yet find community around the dinner table. Also the best place to stay to go to ATM cave or day trip to San Ignacio and Tikal! Incredible hospitality and very helpful in booking your ATM cave tour for you! The property also has it's own ruins in the jungle which I explored every evening before dinner!

Remote but not too remote! Loved going for walks around the ground and being surrounded by nature. A nice contrast from the other more urban hostels that I stayed at in the area. Also easy to reach by bus. Everything is very clean and updated and they even have hot showers! The meals were also great, wouldn’t hesitate to return

I had the best experience staying at Lower Dover! Mady is so welcoming and great to talk to, the meals were delicious and nutritious, and I met some lovely people there. The hostel grounds are an amazing place to explore. I enjoyed hiking on the trails with all the beautiful views of nature and the Mayan ruins. They also have a lot of animals here and I got to pet the baby goats! Plus it's close to the ATM so it was great to get an early start for the tour in the morning before all the crowds.

This was one of the coolest hostel experiences I’ve had. This place feels like you’re a kid at summer camp! Maddy (the host) cooks you home cooked meals which are totally worth the money. The beds have mosquito nets, the showers are hot, the tap water is drinkable, the wifi is fast.... and not to mention this place is surrounded by ruins in the jungle that you can explore (maddy has dogs that you can take with you that can lead you back home and make you feel safe) this is a must stay!!

5 Star Restaurant Delicious Meals created from local ingredients by a guru passionate nutritionist. Strongest WiFi for research, work or education - encompassing entire property. Friendly, frugal, compassionate & well educated staff. Accommodations to meet even the most demanding globe trotters. Based on a 5 Star rating - I personally award them 100 stars.

This is by far my favorite hostel I’ve ever stayed at! Maddy is wonderful and basically adopted us during our stay. She took care great of us - booking our activities, feeding us delicious healthy food, providing us with cookies and tea, and more. On site, there’s a beautiful river trail, lots of wildlife, and un-excavated Mayan ruins to explore. It’s like a summer camp for adults! I will say it’s kind of isolated so if you want to be close to “the action”, this is not the place for you.

Maddy is a really lovely host and she makes an active effort to make sure you enjoy your time in the area! We were visiting in low season and there were only three people staying. Which was fine for us, but may be worth bearing in mind for others. Lower Dover itself had all the amenities incl. mosquito nets. The breakfast and dinner was delicious. Location was a bit remote. We did the candle caving in Semuc Champey and were happy that the ATM caves were much bigger and far more interesting.
