Lower Dover was phenomenal in every way. From it having ancient Maya ruins to explore independently--well we did get a little map from Madeline, our knowledgable and friendly host-- to the tranquility and beauty of being situated in the rainforest, we had a wondrous time and wouldn't have chosen anywhere else to stay on the last leg of our trip. Madeline even drove us to the bus stop when we had to catch an early bus. The private room we stayed in was very cute. It had netting to from mosquitoes

If you want a party hostel in the city - this is not your place. If you want a cozy hostel in the jungle with superior service - this is exactly what you need! After a lot of traveling, I was pleasantly surprised with this hostels “community” feel and the organization. Pool table, swimming holes, ruins under investigation nearby, beers, homemade wine, free water and DELICIOUS MEALS, lot of animals (5 friendly dogs). no a/c in some rooms but they are well ventilated and have mosquito nets!

This is a truly wonderful hostel. It felt like home even though we were far from home! The staff are all fantastic & Maddie went above & beyond to make sure we were safe & aware of anything we might need on our excursions, as well as making sure we were taken care of. The facilities are excellent, seeing the ruins at Lower Dover is fantastic, & everything was better than expected. I was worried about the farm noises, but it was actually very quiet & I enjoyed seeing the animals.

BEST NIGHT SLEEP WE’VE HAD SINCE TRAVELING. Maddy goes above and beyond for delicious, healthy meals, drives us to the bus stop, and with any history question about the area to boot! The ruins were fun to explore, swimming the the river was magnificent, and the animals were so much fun to hang out with. Her son makes a delicious hibiscus wine from his orchard and we had to take some to go. Would 100% stay here again!

Lower Dover is the perfect base to tour the ATM caves, San Ignacio and their very own Mayan Ruins in their backyard, along with a swimming hole along the river for a refreshing dip. Maddy is the most accomodating host I’ve ever had and does everything possible to ensure you have a great stay. This place is a must do if you’re on your way from the Belize Cays to Guatemala.

Great host/owner, healthy food and one heck of a “Mexican Moonshine” aka Hibiscus Wine. Great location for Mayan Ruin tours and San Ignacio Sunday Market with great and fabulous food vendors. Felt welcome all the way around! Would definitely stay again.

This was such an amazing place!! Loved being in the jungle. I had the family meals each morning and evening for supper and it was delicious! We did our excursions from here and had a great time. Just remember to bring bug spray if you’re going to be walking through the jungle area here! I regret not bringing any! Oops!

Such a wonderful trip and the best staff! I was blown away by their friendly and welcoming nature, the homey feel of the place, the interesting animals on their property, and the very hospitable dogs. I didn't spend as much time on their property as I would have liked, but that's only because they helped organize two fantastic trips for me to Tikal and ATM. They're a little further from ATM than I anticipated, but much closer than any other hostel I could find. And the food/tea is delicious!

Lower Dover totally stood up to all the great reviews on here. It’s a really peaceful and interesting place and Maddy makes sure you have everything you need. Getting there by public transit turned out to be a breeze. A great spot for relaxation more so than partying. The tours and meals booked through them were also fantastic and super straightforward! Thanks to the whole team :)
