It was SO amazing at Lower Dover. The nature trails are EXTENSIVE, so much to the point we found a private spot and could skinny dip worry free. We stayed in the “Aqua” house, which has a wonderfully relaxing hammock room, private bathroom and separate bedroom. The dinners were tasty, and we made friends around the family style table. Would recommend and are excited to stay again. Go Gauchos!

Maddie and her staff were so wonderful! We stayed for two nights and she let us have a cabin to ourselves since there weren’t a ton of people. Dinner and breakfast we both delicious as well. Everyone on the property knows a ton about Belize, and we had some really interesting conversations! The bus stop is just a short walk away. You can take the dogs for walks through the on-site trails to a natural swimming pool, the river, and ruins. Would absolutely recommend staying here!

Lower Dover is all about your expectations. If you want nightlife, easy access, and an energy driven experience, this is not it. If you want to reconnect with nature, get off the beaten path, eat home cooked meals, trail walk with a pack of dogs, feed chickens and ducks and stare into an unpolluted night sky, this is it! Relax in comfy bunk houses, eat family style and wake up with the sun. This was a perfect midpoint to recharge during my travels. The hardest part was leaving.

Lower Dover is a wonderful place. It’s farther away from San Ignacio but you’re closer to the ATM caves. Maddie is very helpful and kind. I’d definitely try out the dinner because you get to meet people that are staying there. There’s also a small swimming hole there where you can cool off during a hot day and there’s a trail that you can see the ruins she has on site.

As per the reviews, Maggie is awesome. She’s hand built this site and she’s really got a knack for running this place! The facilities are really high quality; nice touches at every turn with mosquito nets on beds, flushable toilets, hot showers, home made breakfast and dinner options ... although it is a trek out of town, a bus is easy enough to catch. I actually went into Bella’s and while they are more central, lower Dover is a lot more authentic

Loved my stay in Lower Dover. Beautiful hostel with the jungle and some mayan ruins in the backgarden. Maddie is a wonderful, fun host who cooked up delicious meals and is so happy to advise and organise tours. Definitely one of my more memorable hostel stays.

We stayed for one night and I wish we could have stayed longer! The owners were so welcoming and so were their dogs! Very minimal barking! It was awesome to have a little jungle paradise only open to the guests, and you can take one of their well behaved dogs around on the trails with you. Overall we had an amazing time and would highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing jungle vibe!

Definitely a different experience, but a great one. Beautiful property, took a nice swim in the on site river. Walked the ruins on site. Breakfast and dinners were additional but family style and were great for meeting people, but if you are staying more than a couple days it could get pricey. Very strict on check out times; almost uncomfortably so. ATM cave tour is more pricey from there but you do arrive earlier before the crowds. The dogs are lovely. The rooms are spacious. WiFi was slow

This hostel was great. Maddie was very helpful and friendly. The beds were comfy and the hostel has a very chill vibe about it right in the middle of nature. There are newly discovered ruins on site which we are allowed to visit. And a beautiful river walk close by.

Lower Dover is a nice hostel located in a beautiful area. You can go on hikes right from the hostel and there’s a river right on the property you can swim in. The secluded location makes it hard to eat anywhere else that the hostel. The meals were very good! They were just a bit pricey for me. Also I booked the ATM cave through the hostel, which was 110$, after talking to fellow traveler this is definitely the most expensive one. Most of the other people I met payed 75$ for theirs.
