The protests in Santiago, Chile began as soon as we arrived at the hostel. The staff was so supportive, informative and gave me the information that I needed to stay calm. The hostel even filled with teargas as we were right outside of the action and even then the staff still held down the fort in the lobby and suggested steps to remain safe.

Very happy. Luggage room is strictly controlled. Beds are very comfy. Evening activities, including basement and rooftop, provide good atmosphere for socialising with other guests. Short walk from artistic/trendy Barrio Lastarria area. Also near Baquedano metro station. I would stay here again!

We stayed in Merced 88 during the riots in Santiago and the staff were incredibly helpful at advising us how the situation was when we weren’t in the hostel. They looked after everyone when we managed to get back late at night keeping up people’s morales with music and laughs until everything outside the hostel had died down. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in Santiago. Having the freedom of the rooftop terrace was the cherry on top of everything.

I was there following the 2 month long protests, it had quieted down, but there were still smaller protests around the hostel. I never felt unsafe, the hostel is locked, it can just be loud at times, but I dont blame that at all on the hostel. The hostel is well located in Lastarria neighborhood and along a BEAUTIFUL park. I love park culture in South America, everyone brings a picnic and hangs around all day. If the hostel was busier, I think it would have really great vibes - potential!

Very nice hostel. Obvious issues at the moment with the protests but I didn't ever feel threatened (though only there one night) and the girl on reception was really helpful and informative. Hopefully things will be cleared up soon.

Lovely hostel, but I stayed there at the wrong time. Was right in the middle of where the riots were happening and made it scary getting to and from the hostel as a solo female traveller. If it wasn’t for the riots though it would be a lovely place to relax! Rooms were big and spacious and it was clean.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOSTEL. Could not access it at night due to the protests. asked the front desk & was told “management says we have to normalize it for the guests although it’s not”. I tried to reach the hostel and was hit by tear gas. I asked for a refund as I couldn’t go to the hostel and was told no. There was a giant street fire In front of the hostel. The hostel is clean, nice & breakfast is good but given the political situation I would NOT book this. Reception- give a straight answer.
