Overview

Whether you're travelling solo or with friends, you'll feel right at home with us at Rest Up London. We've been welcoming travellers to our award-winning hostel in central London for more than 100 years, and we know the importance of feeling at home away from home. Kick back in spacious communal areas or grab something to eat – we've got everything from traditional English fry-ups to Italian-style pizza and pasta.

Location

You'll be based in quirky Elephant & Castle and only a quick walk to the nearest underground station – from there, it's a few stops to famous sights like the Tower of London and the London Eye. Soho's bohemian bars, Chinatown's buzzing restaurants and Covent Garden market are all a short stroll from Piccadilly Circus, which is five stops away on the Bakerloo line. Up for a night out but don’t feel like going far? The iconic Ministry of Sound nightclub is 12 minutes' walk.

Rooms and Dorms

Prefer to have your own private bathroom? Some of our rooms come with en-suites at no extra charge. Wi-Fi and bedding are included in all of our rooms, including mixed and female-only dorms. Each bed has a reading light: perfect for planning your itinerary with our free city maps. Our private rooms are ideal for couples, and make sure to book one of our family rooms if you’re travelling with under-18s. We've got towels and hairdryers for hire, which leaves more space in your backpack for city souvenirs. And don't worry if your bag weighs more than you do – there's also an elevator.

Extras and activities

You'll find all the essentials on-site: an ATM, secure lockers for stowing your bags, 24-hour security and welcoming multilingual staff at the front desk – also open all day and night. If you're staying in, stop by one of the vending machines before swapping stories with fellow travellers in our café or terrace, snuggle up in the TV room on the comfy bean bags, or get involved in some (light) competition over foosball and pool.

    Superb

Very lovely staff, were greeted and assisted well as a family. Very reasonably priced, do not expect too much as a budget place. Security is above and beyond. Policies of no smoking, alcohol and illicit compounds mean these rules guarantee a safe environment free from late night disturbances often experienced at other backpacking hostels. We stayed on the top floor, so w/ lift broken 110 steps each way was a struggle after 10hrs of walking London. 5 stars overall. Nice place for a rest up.

It was good value for what I paid. I did not like the fact that there was a charge for storing luggage. Especially when there are insufficient luggage lockers.

The room for 12 beds it’s ridiculously small and the bathroom inside of the room is impossible to use, very small and the water was impossible to change the temperature, so, me and my friends needed to shower in the bathroom out of the room! It’s impossible to have space to open any luggage there, and the plugs for charge anything its insufficient, so, you need to fight for get some plug to charge your phone.

The beds have not a individual light and we were 12 in the room and was pretty bad the light in the room. We were sleeping around 10 am and the cleaner just open the door and start hovering without say anything, the toilets where disgusting we had to talk with reception. No plugs in each bed so you had to charge your phone far from you ...

The four bed dorm has no place to store luggage and had no ventilation. The bathroom door was broken with dirty toilets. The location is central and the staff was nice but the property is dirty and run down

I stayed there with a group of students. First impression the TV room, utterly smelly and dirty with rubbish laying across the room. Eagerly to have a shower but they didn’t have towels to hire for two days. The bathrooms were quite dirty and again really smelly. Members of reception team were cold and not the most helpful. We got an ensuite room for no use as when someone used it got flooded. Uncomfortable beds, quite wobbly. Definitely not taking any groups there again.

This has to be the worst hostel I stayed at. First of all, there are no lockers in the room, so you have to store your luggage and valuables downstairs and pay £2 every time you open the locker as you can’t use a padlock. There’s no elevator and every time I needed something from my bag I had to go down 4 sets of very long stairs. The room was freezing cold and the receptionist didn’t do anything about it after I complained twice. He said he was busy and would come to it later. Wouldn’t recommen

Front desk will not lift a finger to be helpful. The push button 3 second delay type showers are terrible. Hundreds of people stay here at a time. This hostel is functional - that’s it. As bad as the place is - its saving grace is the above ground bus, it is perfect to take you to Westminster, Tower Bridge, British Museum & a simple transfer Trafalgar Square. Transportation is perfect.

The staff in the reception rejected me referring to their "checking out on time policy". Yes I was late checking out the morning of the 31 December, cause I was talking with the cleaning staff about many topics. When he was getting late I worried for his work also helped him a bit with the cleaning of the room. I was 10 pm and I could'nt find another place so I had to spend the night outdoors and in McDonalds. It was quite cold and not very good for my health cause I had a cold already.
