Overview

Whether you're travelling solo or with friends, you'll feel right at home with us at Rest Up London. We've been welcoming travellers to our award-winning hostel in central London for more than 100 years, and we know the importance of feeling at home away from home. Kick back in spacious communal areas or grab something to eat – we've got everything from traditional English fry-ups to Italian-style pizza and pasta.

Location

You'll be based in quirky Elephant & Castle and only a quick walk to the nearest underground station – from there, it's a few stops to famous sights like the Tower of London and the London Eye. Soho's bohemian bars, Chinatown's buzzing restaurants and Covent Garden market are all a short stroll from Piccadilly Circus, which is five stops away on the Bakerloo line. Up for a night out but don’t feel like going far? The iconic Ministry of Sound nightclub is 12 minutes' walk.

Rooms and Dorms

Prefer to have your own private bathroom? Some of our rooms come with en-suites at no extra charge. Wi-Fi and bedding are included in all of our rooms, including mixed and female-only dorms. Each bed has a reading light: perfect for planning your itinerary with our free city maps. Our private rooms are ideal for couples, and make sure to book one of our family rooms if you’re travelling with under-18s. We've got towels and hairdryers for hire, which leaves more space in your backpack for city souvenirs. And don't worry if your bag weighs more than you do – there's also an elevator.

Extras and activities

You'll find all the essentials on-site: an ATM, secure lockers for stowing your bags, 24-hour security and welcoming multilingual staff at the front desk – also open all day and night. If you're staying in, stop by one of the vending machines before swapping stories with fellow travellers in our café or terrace, snuggle up in the TV room on the comfy bean bags, or get involved in some (light) competition over foosball and pool.

You need to fix your gate so homeless people don't come wandering in asking people to pay for their beds. You're aware of this but you don't care...

My reservation was canceled because of the corona virus, I have been trying to receive my refund for almost 2 months, I have already called several times, they take my reservation number and they say they will return and nothing! What about the website's app they gave me a voucher and not my refund! I'm really disappointed with both companies!

The WiFi is only available in some rooms but not all. The staff told us it only works in the common area which isn’t true. There was a mouse in the cafeteria so I didn’t try the food out of disgust. Then there were these two staff members. One was Portuguese, heavy set with a beard and another who wears a hat, skinny with a radio/Walkie talkie who had very bad attitudes. We had an altercation and security had to come to calm things down. Dirty place but it was cheap if you are looking to save $

Had a private room, window handle was broken so the window was opening and making noise all night. It was very hard to sleep. Wifi access is only available on the ground floor which was unpleasant. Elevator isn't working so you have to walk up a lot of stairs. In the dining area, while I ate I saw a mouse coming in and out near the curtains. Was definitely an uncomfortable stay, so I won't be coming back to this hostel again.

It was the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. There are only limited lockers that have to pay 2 pounds when you have to open the locker. It is unsafe as the room does not have any lockers for travelers to store their luggage. The common area is super dirty. There is a lot of rubbish and no one clean it. The light of the bathroom will turn off suddenly. Also, the temperature of shower water is not adjustable.

There is no personal socket for the 12 bed room I am staying in and the socket in the common room charges really slow. The shower is terrible and it is not close to the city centre or whatsoever. Then bed is just terrible as well and they don't look clean at all. And the facilities are worn out and looks old. most importantly, the bathroom on the ground floor smells really badly. There must be better place out there with this price.

This place was extremely dirty. The showers have bugs in them and the water turned on and off. It needs to be repaired. There were no towels provided. This place was not nice at all.

I was stuck in Denmark due to the corona virus and couldnt make it to the accommodation due to canceled flights. Although I had a non-refundable booking I thought I'd try and get refunded. I contacted the website who were happy to refund me £7.43 booking deposit and empathetic about my situation but the rest of the money was collected by Rest Up. I contacted them with high hopes and was shocked to hear them say its non-refundable so they will not refund anything. I will not be using them again.

Unfortunately I am not able to give a lower rating than 2 as the website disallows it. If you are considering staying here, the price is not worth it. I literally could not breathe in the room I was assigned to as it smelled so putrid. The entire property is unkept and old, there is no storage, and no personal lighting or outlets to charge your devices. I couldn't even stay here for more than an hour as I was fearful for my safety and health. I'm ashamed that places like this exist.
