****Your health and wellness are our priority****
At The Local, we are taking steps to reduce any risk to your health - Surfaces are disinfected daily using sanitizing solutions designed to eliminate viruses, bacteria and other illness causing germs. Our linens are professionally laundered off-site at high temperatures. We've increased cleaning protocols related to high-touch surface areas. All of our rooms are equipped with sanitizing spray for hard surfaces.

Although a hostel is a communal environment, there are aspects to preserve some separation between guests. All bunks have dividers providing a physical barrier between guests. Each room has its own private bathroom – with sink, toilet and shower. All rooms have individual ventilation systems. We firmly believe in socially distancing in your sleep and are assigning beds so that guests are as spaced out as possible.

Please check www.cdc.gov (USA) and ww1.nyc.gov (NYC) for more information about staying healthy during your visit to the US and NYC.
If you have any concerns or questions prior to or during your stay, please contact us.

Overview

Live like a local in one of New York’s coolest hostels. You'll feel totally looked after – especially with our luxury sheets and towels! Our edgy industrial building, with floor-to-ceiling windows, is definitely worthy of an Insta story, as is our rooftop terrace, which overlooks the iconic NYC skyline. Grab a coffee or locally-made beer in the bar, or catch up with home in the computer lounge. Looking for a travel buddy for the next few weeks? We have board games, a Wii and regular events including concerts, movie nights and wine or beer tastings to get you chatting.

Location

You’ll find us in New York’s up-and-coming Long Island City – only a couple of stops away from Manhattan and Brooklyn, and home to the city’s most vibrant art scene. To get here from JFK airport, take the train to Jamaica Station then hop on the E subway. We're a four-minute walk from Court Square – 23rd Street stop. Do as New Yorkers do and hang in a trendy coffee shop, or visit one of the galleries or museums nearby like MOMA PS1 exhibition space just behind the hostel.

Rooms and Dorms

This might be the city that never sleeps, but everyone needs a comfy place to rest their head. You’ll be staying in clean dorms with a quirky urban vibe. Reading lights and adaptors are provided, and so are hair dryers, so no need to squash one into your bag. Air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms keep you fresh when New York heats up. Carrying valuables? Locked storage space lets you stash your stuff securely.

Extras and activities

Explore the city with insider knowledge from our staff – they’ll be able to guide you on where to eat in town, and tell you about local hideouts you won't find in your guidebook. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hostel, so if your mum likes to know what you're doing every day, she'll be happy! If you're here for the NYC's nightlife, good news – we have 24-hour reception and security.

This was my second time staying here, the manager was super friendly! Great location in Long Island City near a subway stop - getting into Manhattan is quick and simple! I love the rooftop patio and stayed in a private room this time around (super impressed with what I got!). I'll be returning in September.

Absolutely love this hostel, stayed a couple of years ago and met some amazing people. On my way home to the U.K. to stop over in NYC to escape from the old Coronavirus, booked this place last minute and had another lovely stay. It’s great that you can leave your bags here (for $1) after checking out so you can go exploring the city if you want. Great rooms, lovely staff and such a huge book swap too. Also it’s like 1 min from the E train which takes you straight into the city

The rooftop view at night is definitely worth it. I enjoyed my stay more this time than last time and the front desk woman was really nice. Also the room was put into this time was bigger so that was nice. If I go back to NY, I am sure I will stay here again.
