Or relax in a bean bag in the cinema room for a film with your new squad – take a craft beer from the bar to drink along with the movie.

Via Amsterdam is in the middle of a student campus – it's one of the reasons we always have a buzzing vibe – with a supermarket, gym and a pizzeria nearby. To reach us, take Metro line 53 from Amsterdam Centraal train station for 13 minutes to Venserpolder or hop on a train from Schiphol Airport to Diemen-Zuid station – then you're a 10-minute walk away. The same line will also take you to must-see attractions like the Heineken Experience, which is a 15-minute walk from the station. After a night out in the city centre, the 287 or 285 bus will bring you back to us in under 40 minutes.

Our minimalist mixed dorms – there's a female-only dorm too – have bunks and en-suites with hot showers. We also have private doubles if you're after more personal space. The custom-made bunks have headboards for privacy, a light, plug socket and USB port. You'll feel like you're at home on your comfy mattress and fresh linen, plus, you'll have a personal locker to keep all your stuff securely stowed away.

Extras and activities

Feeling peckish? The Dude restaurant serves burgers, hot dogs and nachos until late, or you can rustle up something yourself in our kitchen. We've also got vending machines for a quick midnight snack. To discover Amsterdam do as the locals do and cycle – hire a bike from us and take the 20-minute ride to the heart of the city. Pick up a free map at reception, pop via the ATM and you'll be off.

I stayed in a 8 bed mixed room and first of all the room was very large so great for moving around the room when it’s full of people. Hostel was clean and basic. Negative was the WiFi did not work for me, maybe because lots of people/locals would come in and too many people were connected at once, but over was a great stay because the location let me not be in the city center and gave me space from the busyness of the city. Would stay again.

The staff was very nice and always looked to help from when we arrived until we left. Provided all kinds of information to make our trip easy. The hostel itself was really well kept and was consantly buzzing in the downstairs area especially the evenings with people playing pool/air hockey to chilling out and having a drink/reading a book. Would recommend and I'm sure I'll be back!

The check-in process was not the best. The website states 2pm chech-in. We arrived at 9am to drop off our bags for storage until check-in, staff told us to come at 3pm instead because it was very busy. We arrive back at 330pm and our room was still not available. The staff kept saying 20-30 more minutes. (almost 2 hours later) it's now after 5pm, finally we are given access to the room. For compensation, we were given a free coffee voucher for the trouble. Busy weekend should mean more staff

The only downside is that it's far from the city, rather on the outskirts so travel at night is a problem. But it's right next to the University so a good vibe going around.

Stayed here and physically the hostel is kinda big, lots of rooms and lots of space feels more like a hotel than a hostel though, I didn’t have a very social experience here... it might be because I’m English and it felt like when people were socialising I could mainly hear Dutch or could’ve been me, yeah enjoyed it but as a solo traveller not the best for meeting new friends...

I stayed there for 1 night that was below my expectations , when I arrived at 4PM the room was not cleaned yet by the staff. Next moronic I have had to pay 5€ for checkout before 1PM instead of10AM - most hostels won’t charge you for that - it’s location is really far from the city and there is a good walking till the metro station that closes its doors at 9PM

The hostel is older than the photos show. There is a lot of noise from outside and the blanket and pillows are super old and dirty. the bathroom is dark and doesn't have much place to hang your stuff. There is no lockers. The location is super good. I thing that is worth it to pay a little bit more to have a better experience in another hostel. This hostel is for those that are coming on the last minute and couldn't book in a better hostel. I didn't felt secured in the facilities as a woman.
