Hostelworld says

We like the very central location of Wombats City Hostel Budapest, just a block from Andrássy utca and five minutes from a metro station serving three lines going to Buda, the airport stop and the three main train stations. This friendly, clean hostel opened in 2012 in a former hotel. It features spacious ensuite rooms with free air conditioning, free welcome drinks for guests and a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat breakfast with yoghurt, fruit and good bread.

Really really good hostel!! Enormous bedrooms! Staff were so friendly and helpful when I dislocated my knee. The location is literally ideal, right in the middle of everything and no more than a 10 minute walk from Szimpla Kert and plenty of other stuff to do

While the atmosphere of the hostel was good, the room I stayed in was so smelly. The smell was so overwhelming, and although we asked the staff about it, they just gave us free drink tickets, so I didn't fix the problem. Staff not the friendliest. The bathroom in the room was dirty, and the shower head was also broken in the room as well. Not the best hostel, but not the worst.

We had trouble with a girl in our room who took our bed. We had made it with our own sheets and everything. She ended up arguing with us for ages. So had to grab our belongings & move rooms at 3am. The new room we had, had a terrible smell in the bathroom which was quite unpleasant. Staff were friendly though.

I've been to Wombats Vienna previously, where I have had a very good experience. When I arrived to Wombats Budapest, I felt the same vibe in the reception. However, I've got disappointed when I arrived to the room. It was old, dirty and smelling bad, in the toilet as well. I do not recommend staying here. Location is extremely central and surrounded by restaurants and bars.

A fairly poor experience. One night at 2am a guest set off a fire alarm, which takes staff over 30 min to figure out how to shut off. Another night a guest breaks a radiator, flooding half of the first floor in 2cm of black, sludged water. I do not blame Wombats for guests' poor decisions, but I do blame them for not training staff at being able to handle these situations. It appeared that the flooding clean-up started at about 7am when guests were leaving and not when the issue happened.

SICK, PERVERTED hostel staff- walked in on me in my room once yesterday and 3 times WITHOUT KNOCKING. I was either showering, undressed, or getting dressed each time and instead of exiting they would have full conversations and arguments with me while staring at my body. It happened today at 8:40am, 9:30am, and just now (10:30am) the cleaning woman ENTERED MY BATHROOM and told me to get out- while I have my room booked up with a PAID LATE CHECK OUT UNTIL 1PM today. I feel UNSAFE and VIOLATED.

Wombats City Hostel Budapest says

I think what's really unique about us is that this was a pretty good hotel before we upgraded it to a Wombats , so it comes with some amenities you don´t typically find in a hostel, like really big rooms, a/c, nice en suite facilities (even with hairdryers) and amply dimensioned common areas. It´s the biggest hostel in town, so guaranteed never boring. And the house is run by a really, really enthusiastic team.
We're one block from Andrassy utca (Budapest's version of the Champs Elysse), the main cathedral is just around the corner and the history city centre is a ten-minute walk away. Walk in the other direction and you're in the middle of the most lively nightlife area. Personally I recommend hitting Corvintetö, a superb rooftop club not far away. The langos shop next to the entrance is ridiculously good (and cheap), too.
Most of our guests are twentysomethings. Budapest offers excellent nightlife and is very cheap, so it attracts a lot of people who intend to indulge in it. Klaus, CFO Wombats
