Hostelworld says

We like the very central location of Wombats City Hostel Budapest, just a block from Andrássy utca and five minutes from a metro station serving three lines going to Buda, the airport stop and the three main train stations. This friendly, clean hostel opened in 2012 in a former hotel. It features spacious ensuite rooms with free air conditioning, free welcome drinks for guests and a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat breakfast with yoghurt, fruit and good bread.

I really liked my stay at Wombats. I stayed at the 4 bed female dorm. It was quite spacious, had a nice street view, and the bathroom was neat too(although could be cleaned better). Well located, within reasonable walking distance of several spots. Also is located on a busy street so there are a ton of eateries right bear it. Honestly, for the price I paid I can't complain. Definitely recommend a stay here.

Everything was great except the whole place and the room smelled like toilet and the bed bunk was very noisy. However, the staff is very friendly, breakfast is good, and the location is great.

Really great hostel, everything was clean and comfortable and the rooms were very big. Each bed had a powerpoint , light and shelf and the bathrooms were huge and spotless too. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a good bar and lounge area. Most hostels in Budapest are small and cramped because of the older beulding style but this hostel is much bigger and newer. There was a bit of a funky smell in the lobby but it wasn't too bad and the facilities made up for it.

We had a really good stay in a 4 bed mixed dorm. Our roommates were kind and respectful. This came in handy because the beds were extremely loud every time someone moved. Two guests ended up moving their mattresses to the floor so we could sleep in peace. Also the top bunk looked very concerning as it was missing several slats - thought I was gonna get crushed on the bottom bunk. Also the room and lobby smelled like toilet. Other than that, the place was pretty good.

Ignored the reviews about the sewage smell, and it wasn’t forgiving. I do not understand how a hostel chain cannot fix this issue. It’s all you can smell sitting in the lounge area, as you walk in, anywhere in the lobby or bar. Location is perfect, that is the one great thing about this hostel. Street facing rooms are quite loud, so make sure you bring earplugs. Rooms are adequate, pillows and sheets are good. Main floor washroom needs a full clean. The main floor needs a deep clean. Good luck.

Rooms were not that clean upon arrival. Fantastic location. Was a little disappointed the wombat bar never opened until 6. But still a good experience!! Staying in another wombat hostel in a couple days.

The hostel was very dirty and smelled like sewage and mold. Cleaning staff left the bathroom floor dirty even though I spent 5 nights there! The dorm room and bathroom had a terrible odor that made me feel ill. The front desk staff was rude and unhelpful. There were a couple young guys at the desk who were very rude and immature. They need customer service training. Overall a very negative experience for me.

Wombats City Hostel Budapest says

I think what's really unique about us is that this was a pretty good hotel before we upgraded it to a Wombats , so it comes with some amenities you don´t typically find in a hostel, like really big rooms, a/c, nice en suite facilities (even with hairdryers) and amply dimensioned common areas. It´s the biggest hostel in town, so guaranteed never boring. And the house is run by a really, really enthusiastic team.
We're one block from Andrassy utca (Budapest's version of the Champs Elysse), the main cathedral is just around the corner and the history city centre is a ten-minute walk away. Walk in the other direction and you're in the middle of the most lively nightlife area. Personally I recommend hitting Corvintetö, a superb rooftop club not far away. The langos shop next to the entrance is ridiculously good (and cheap), too.
Most of our guests are twentysomethings. Budapest offers excellent nightlife and is very cheap, so it attracts a lot of people who intend to indulge in it. Klaus, CFO Wombats
