This hostel was exactly what I wanted for my trip to the Lakes. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the hostel is within walking distance of some breathtaking hikes. Also accessible by public transportation if you don’t have a car. Atmosphere was laid back and pretty family-oriented, perfect for a restful night after a long day of playing outside.

YHA Ambleside is located right on the Waterhead. It's the perfect location to be at while around Windermere Lake. It has the private entry (only access to YHA guests), thus not much crowded, unlike the Waterhead pier. Dormitories are very clean along with good mattress and blanket. Very cordial and friendly staff with good knowledge of the nearby areas. On enquiring for the nearby walks the staff gave us some maps and recommendation. YHA provided an experience rather than a stay.

Very clean. Beautiful location. Plenty of toilets and showers so you never have to wait. Nice, large lockers in the rooms (take your own lock). Each bed has a light and a socket - tick! The shelf above each bed is laughably small though. The really could do with fitting an extra shelf for each bed, particularly the top bunks. Very good self catering facilities. Menu could be more varied; an economical way of doing this would be to have theme nights such as Pizza Mon, Curry Tues etc

Great experience here! Lovely area to explore, and great location of the hostel itself. The staff were great at helping us with directions and tips. Hostel was clean. The only thing is that I wasn’t aware this hostel hosts some sort of summer camp or field trip, filling the rooms with children!

A very family friendly hostel. The self catering kitchen is huge! Many couples, families, and travelling groups use the kitchen facilities. There is also a bar right in the hostel. You have to bring your own lock, and there are individual showers, individual toilets to be shared with the floor. The view from this hostel of Windemere (the lake) is amazing! It is a 15 minute walk to Ambleside "downtown" and there are buses that go there too. Great location and value for money!

Location is fantastic. Right on the Windermere lake. Bus only 20m away. Pier right in front. Plenty of local walks. Although there were plentiful toilets/showers we found whilst we were there they could have been cleaned more regularly with the large school groups that were staying. Thank you for an amazing stay and would definitely go back.

I visited during an extremely busy weekend, it was all booked with families for the most part. Not the best atmosphere for a solo traveler like me to meet other young people, but I suppose that's Ambleside. It was a long-ish walk from the center of town if you have luggage/belongings to carry. I personally found the staff to be quite rude. The scenery was beautiful, but I still think 25 quid for a regular dorm bed (even on weekdays) is really steep, and breakfast/extras overpriced.
