About
Peace, quiet and some of the most ruggedly beautiful views of anywhere in the UK: your reward for choosing this mountain hideaway for your next Lake District adventure. Discover creatures great and small in the hostel’s 15-acre garden which has its own nature trail and bird hide. It is also a short walk from some great pubs for a slightly different form of entertainment.
With 47 beds, a self-catering kitchen, camping facilities and car parking, the hostel is well-equipped to meet your needs. Plus, YHA Eskdale is an environmentally friendly hostel and uses renewable energy in the form of a biomass boiler and solar panels.
The area is perfect for walkers, with plenty of fantastic fells and Scafell Pike in the vicinity. Hard Knott Fell is a must see and offers incredible views. There is also great climbing on Hare Crag, which has been described as the ‘Yosemite of the Lakes’. If you’re into history, Hardknott Roman Fort is just a couple of miles down the road. Also of interest nearby is the Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway, which proceeds on a 7-mile journey along the Cumbrian coastline.
