About Washington DC

Washington DC, named after George Washington, the first president of the US, is the capital city of the USA. It is home to some of the world’s top landmarks such as the government’s building the Capitol, and what is probably the most famous house in the world: The White House, the official residence of the US president. Washington DC is the place you need to visit if you want to learn more about the American history.

Booking a hostel in Washington DC is your best option if you want to stay close to the main attractions without breaking the bank. Note that the best youth hostels in DC offer free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and many organise fun group events. If you are travelling alone, make sure to participate in tours and movie nights to make the most of your stay in a Washington DC hostel! Look out for the hostel with an outdoor seating area that lets you sip a morning coffee while you watch the world go by…

If you want to stay in a Washington DC youth hostel close to the main attractions of the city where you can also enjoy the local nightlife, opt for the Logan Circle neighbourhood. Many of the bars here offer nightly happy hours (we’re sold), and there are several live music venues so you can check out some local artists. Less touristic, Adams Morgan is another area worth considering, especially if you’re a big foodie. Expect a diverse range of restaurants and a laid-back café culture to enjoy the city’s best casual dining. The Georgetown neighbourhood offers the best waterfront views, and is also home to the famous Georgetown Cupcakes bakery – thank us later!

In Washington DC, there is no shortage of US historical monuments and museums. Walking along the National Mall, you’ll pass Smithsonian museums and come across the world-famous Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. East from the monument stands the very impressive Capitol. And you can’t leave the city without having had a look at the White House, North from National Mall.

The DC metro is the best way to get around Washington DC. It’s affordable, safe, easy to use and covers all of the city’s top destinations and attractions. For anywhere the metro doesn’t cover, hop on the bright red DC Circulator bus. All journeys are $1, so this is a great option if you’re watching those pennies. Washington DC is served by three major airports – the closest and most convenient is the DCA Reagon National Airport, as it’s served by the DC metro.
