You’ll find hostels in Kuala Lumpur scattered around the downtown area, which allows backpackers to be nearby, and sometimes within walking distance to, some of the city’s attractions. The Bukit Bintang neighbourhood is the city’s premier nightlife district, with rows of bars and clubs that are buzzing with backpackers and locals alike. Stay near here if you don’t want too far to stumble back to your hostel at the end of the night! Chinatown and Little India are two of Kuala Lumpur’s most vibrant neighbourhoods – despite only being walking distance apart, they showcase two completely different sides to the city.

The list of things to do in Kuala Lumpur is endless, from rich culture to theme park fun, this city has something for all types of travellers. Kuala Lumpur is home to the Insta-famous Petronas Towers - the tallest twin towers in the world. Adrenaline junkies will love the walk across the sky bridge that joins the towers, plus, not to mention the stunning views over the city. For a dose of nature, why not visit the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park, climb the hanging bridges of KL Forest Eco Park or visit the Batu Caves. For a day of carefree fun head to the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park that is just as loved by locals as it is by travellers. Surprisingly Kuala Lumpur is easy to navigate. Walking around the city is a great way to get to many of the main attractions. However, be aware that the police are fairly strict on jaywalking! In terms of transportation, Sentral Station is the main station where 3 rail systems of the city connect. Trains are a great option to help avoid traffic and are reasonably priced. Taxis are an option but are expensive so avoid them if you can.
