About Bundoran

Set along the Wild Atlantic Way, Bundoran is popular with holidaymakers from all over Ireland. It's a lively seaside town where you'll find fairground rides and water parks, plus the flashing lights of retro amusement arcades. The town centre has grand houses built by Irish aristocracy, and along the coast are surfing beaches with crashing waves and tall cliffs. Stroll out of town for dramatic scenery such as the Fairy Bridges, rocky arches formed naturally by erosion.

You can stay in charming cottage-style Bundoran hostels on the outskirts of the town centre, a cosy surf lodge close to the beach or a music-themed hostel in the centre of town. Several provide free breakfast, and you can choose between private or dorm rooms (mixed or single-gender). You'll find that private rooms are often en-suite. Keep an eye out for a Bundoran hostel with features like barbecue events in summer or an on-site Italian restaurant. Most hostels in Bundoran have private parking, which is handy if you're driving.

Bundoran is set in the curve of a natural bay, with the town centre in the middle and a long promenade along the waterfront. Over the bridge, you'll find the town's West End, the site of the original Bundoran village, with several accommodation options and picturesque old churches. Other areas to explore include the Fairy Bridges (a-20 minute walk to the north) and Ballyshannon, a historic town with monuments, a lively arts centre and a statue of famous musician Rory Gallagher.

If you're keen to get active, head to the Peak, one of Bundoran's most popular surf breaks, or take a horseback ride over beaches and rolling dunes. You can go on thrilling fairground rides at Bundoran Adventure Park. For something a little more leisurely, there's an 18-hole golf course with ocean views to the north of town, or you can swim in Bundoran's sheltered, rocky West End pool. For total relaxation, try a pampering seaweed bath.

From Donegal Airport, you can take a bus to Bundoran (3.5 hours, change at Letterkenny). Or from Knock Airport, there's a direct bus which takes around 2 hours. If you're travelling by train from elsewhere in Ireland, the closest railway station is in Sligo. A bus from here to Bundoran will take around 30 minutes. Once you're in Bundoran, you can get around on local buses, or hire a car or bike. It's also possible to drive from the UK by taking a car ferry from Liverpool to Belfast and driving down (just under 9 hours total journey time).
