Bib's is an excellent hostel and fully serviced until 10pm daily so you don?t have to do any humdrum domestics or wash dirty dishes!

Situated in St Lucia with its shops, restaurants and bars, Bibs caters for every aspect of the backpacker market with self-catering chalets and excellent dorms.

It is situated in the heart of the St Lucia World Heritage Site and is surrounded by national parks so you can walk out of the door and into a hippo. At night look out for bushbabys and colourful chameleons, and if you?re lucky, a leopard.

Situated in the heart of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, in the small village of St Lucia lies the newly renovated Bibs Backpackers Holiday Accommodation. We have a variety of unbelievable, unforgettable excursions and adventures awaiting you.

The great St Lucia Wetlands Park and its 5 eco systems offers over 60km of self-guided trails, 4 of the Big 5, hippos, crocs and sharks. The Umfolozi/Hluhluwe Game Reserve is on the doorstep and the local beaches are unspoilt.

Our backpacker restaurant serves light meals and offers an opportunity to catch up with letters or watch telly. Nights can be spent alongside the lovely rockpool sharing a few of the guide?s crazy escapades, or on the beach beneath a million stars. Free morning walks and mud baths, Beach fires and shuttle to and from the beach are available. There is also Zulu dancing on Saturday nights.

Thw bathroom was very dirty!!! The bathroom needs to be cleaned, tiled. Mariska was very friendly. Wifi was not stable.

We received friendly welcome by hostess Mariska. There were some noisy people on our second night but hostess quickly put an end to it. This is obviously due to experience in running the place. It was good value for money. We had a great time at BiB's and would recommend it to anyone who is on a tight budget. We will definitely be back.

The showers at this place are appalling to say the list. I almost didn't shower for two days. yes they were being cleaned in the mornings but those showers need more than cleaning. They are shocking! if the department were to be sent there, the place would be shut down purely from the condition on the showers. Interestingly, the toilets were okay. The rooms, especially ROOM 1, also had a funny smell. I would go back (just for a place to sleep) if they worked on their showers.

About St Lucia

St Lucia is a bustling village at the mouth of the wildlife-rich St Lucia Estuary in South Africa. The village is on the southern tip of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site important for its hippo population and incredibly varied natural landscape. With St Lucia as a base you can explore coastal dunes, sandy beaches, savannahs and rich forest areas. Just an hour away is nature reserve Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park, a popular place for spotting Africa's Big Five animals in the wild.

You can stay in a St Lucia hostel where you can sleep in a domed tent (with a proper bed!). There are hostels where you can laze under gazebos by an outdoor pool or rack up a barbecue with your dorm mates. Some St Lucia hostels in the village have guest kitchens, which are ideal if you'd like to cook for yourself, and in the evenings, you could sip cocktails at a poolside bar. Look out for hostels in St Lucia with free Wi-Fi too – it'll be invaluable if you're researching safaris or estuary cruises.

Life in St Lucia revolves around McKenzie Street, a former hippo track that's now the village high street. Along McKenzie Street you'll have a choice of restaurants, cafés and bars while the quieter side streets have a few more low-key options. Ingwe Beach is a long stretch of sand just a short walk east out of town, but for snorkelling and a wilder beach experience drive 45 minutes north to Cape Vidal.

Activities around St Lucia take advantage of the incredible natural setting, whether you hike through rich coastal forest on the iGwalagwala Trail or hire a kayak to explore the varied birdlife along the St Lucia Estuary. You could join a whale-watching trip for an opportunity to get out on the Indian Ocean or sign up for a guided night drive into iSimangaliso Wetland you may spot leopards, rhinos or elephants. In Veyane Cultural Village (10 minutes' drive inland), curious visitors can experience everyday life and traditional dance shows in a Zulu community.

To get to St Lucia fly to King Shaka International Airport in Durban and take a shuttle bus from there (4 hours). From Durban city centre you can also take a shared taxi to Mtubatuba (2.5 hours) and from there change to another shared taxi for St Lucia (30 minutes). Once you're in the village the only way to get around is to join tours or hire your own car – rental agencies can be found on McKenzie Street.
