What is Surfing Wombats?

Surfing Wombats is a newly most chilled-out hostel located in the south coast of Sri Lanka- Midigama. We are conveniently located 2 minutes away from the beach but off from the Main Street- so You can still peacefully enjoy your beauty sleep.

Best surf breaks just minutes away- just walk or roam around with a scooter, tuk tuk or a bicycle. If You re already like Kelly Slater- we give You tips where to go and what to do. If You want to become a new star in the surfing world- we organise the surf classes and soon You will be riding these waves like Sri Lankans eat rice and curry.

Who we would like to see in our hostel?
We do not care if You re 60 or you are 10- just come with open-heart and lust for adventure.

But if I am not a surfer?
We love to do yoga, we love to play chess, we love to talk about current event and we also love to party. You can also just relax in the hammock, read a book and just chill.

Surfing Wombats in Midigama is a social hub perfect for surfers and solo travellers. Guests love the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, especially Justin, who make everyone feel at home. The delicious pizza and vibrant atmosphere are highlights. Some rooms can get hot, and a drain smell near dorms/tents has been noted.

Stayed in the tent which was actually fine however have to use the restaurants toilet which can be hundreds of people so really gross. Would have extended if it wasn’t for the bathroom situation. Restaurant is very nice, good coffee , staff members etc Did struggle to meet some people but may be because I was in the tent.

Best experience in Sri Lanka! I stayed in the hostel for more than 2 weeks. The staff was amazing welcoming, funny and helpful and I could easily meet new people there. The accommodations are very cheap and most of the time I slept in the tend which was also ab very special experience in Sri Lanka. There are fans and at nights it’s cooling down very easily anyway. The pizza at the restaurant is crazy delicious and the best you can get in Sri Lanka.

Great place to meet people! Just quiet season right now in the south of Sri Lanka but they still host events. Nice place to hang out. Food was amazing though slightly more expensive. The dorm could really use a/c as I struggled to sleep.
