About

【CAUTION】
Here is far from Osaka city center!!
We DO NOT recommend you to stay here if you're looking for somewhere closer to the city.
If you’re looking for a place close to Dotonbori or right in the middle of tourist central, Fujitatami Guesthouse might not be for you.
We’re not that kind of place.
Here is more for chilling, calming down, see locals, neighbors say hello, and you might just learn how to make a tatami mat.

Fujitatami Guesthouse in Izumi, south of Osaka, is run by a family of TATAMI (natural rush flooring often seen in temples and tea rooms) makers. We warmly welcome travellers and visitors from around the world.

We are situated a short distance from Kansai International Airport: from the nearest Izumi-Chuo station, there is a direct coach service to and from the airport (fare: ¥1350). While we might feel a bit far from Osaka city centre, the area remains well-connected by train to Osaka Namba station.

Our guests are often those seeking an authentic experience in a traditional Japanese town or a countryside setting, surrounded by parks and charming local shops. There are excellent links to hiking trails in Nara and Wakayama. Guests also enjoy mingling with the friendly locals, exploring nearby pubs and eateries, and unwinding away from the hustle and bustle of urban shopping districts. If you appreciate a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere, you’ll feel right at home here.

Although our rates may seem slightly higher, this reflects our limited number of beds, which allows us to provide a more personalised and attentive service. In return, we offer special discounted rates for stays of 3 nights or more, encouraging guests to take their time, make meaningful connections, and immerse themselves in the unique Fujitatami Guesthouse experience.

We offer 1 male dormitory, 1 female dormitory, and 2 private rooms. Private Room A accommodates up to 2 people, and Private Room B up to 4 people. Our building is a traditional Japanese house, and tatami mats are featured in all rooms, offering you an authentic Japanese-style stay.

For art enthusiasts, our small workshop next door offers an Airbnb experience where you can watch a demonstration of traditional tatami making and even create your own mini mat, guided by a master tatami maker. If this interests you, please enquire and book in advance; we offer discounts for our guests!

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in local Japanese culture, Fujitatami is the ideal place to stay. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions—we’re happy to help! :)

One of a kind hostel! Such an awesome and unique stay. I highly recommend booking a session in the tatami workshop next door run by the owners father, not only do you create your own mini mat but we worked together on a full size mat for a client! Likely the only place in Japan you can do this 🙇‍♂️ The owner is also a really lovely guy, we spent a long time chatting, adventured to meet friends and he helped drive me to post office before my flight home! So I experienced incredible hospitality :)

Such a good place to stay if you want avoid the crowds of Osaka. Not too much to do in the area, but easy to take the train other places. The staff is super sweet and welcoming. Always helping if you have any questions or other problems. Would definitely stay again.

My stay at Guesthouse Fujitatami was the highlight of my trip - if you prefer an accomodation that is away from the bustle of the city but still rich in experiences like meeting locals and enjoying delicious restaurants, I highly recommend a stay with Issay and Kana + breakfast included. **Pro-tip: Take advantage of the 2hr tatami workshop they offer! For an additional fee, you get your own personalized tatami souvenir to take home. It is a priceless experience, and one I will always remember.
