Wake up by the ocean and experience Sydney beach life at Mad Monkey Coogee Beach. Located directly opposite beautiful Coogee Beach, our hostel puts you just steps from the sand, surf, cafés, bars and restaurants of one of Sydney’s most iconic beachside neighbourhoods.

We’re all about creating a fun, friendly and social atmosphere where travellers can meet, explore and make the most of their time in Sydney. Whether you’re travelling solo or with friends, choose from comfortable shared dorms or our apartment-style accommodation with private living spaces.

Our rooms and facilities have been recently refurbished, and our friendly team is always around to help with local tips, travel advice or anything else you need during your stay.

Location

It’s hard to beat our location. We’re directly opposite Coogee Beach and at one end of the famous Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk – one of Sydney’s absolute must-dos.

Coogee gives you the best of both worlds: a relaxed beachside neighbourhood with plenty of cafés, restaurants, bars and coastal walks, while still offering easy access to Sydney CBD and the rest of the city.

Regular public buses stop close to the hostel, making it easy to travel to the CBD, Bondi Junction and other parts of Sydney.

Travelling solo? You won’t be for long!

Mad Monkey is all about bringing travellers together. We run a variety of weekly social activities and events, giving you plenty of opportunities to meet other guests and make new friends.

Depending on the week, you might find us hosting pancake nights, pool competitions, beach activities, sports days, morning swims and other social events.

Check with our team when you arrive for the latest weekly schedule and join in as much – or as little – as you like.

Accommodation

Whether you’re travelling solo, with a mate or as part of a group, we have a range of accommodation options to suit your stay.

Choose from shared dorm rooms or our unique apartment-style accommodation, offering additional living space and a more private setup while still giving you access to the full Mad Monkey social experience.

Our recently refurbished rooms feature comfortable beds, individual reading lights and power points, with many beds also offering privacy curtains.

There is no air conditioning at the property; however, rooms have fans to help keep you comfortable.

Good to Know Before You Book

Mad Monkey Coogee Beach is an 18+ hostel and welcomes adult travellers of all ages.

We love a social atmosphere, but we also want everyone to get a good night’s sleep. Quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM.

Please note that we are located in the heart of Coogee's entertainment precinct, so some external street and venue noise may be heard, particularly on busy nights and weekends.

If you’re booking multiple beds in a shared dorm, we’ll always do our best to keep your group together, but we cannot guarantee that everyone will be allocated to the same room.

Reception & Check-In

Reception hours: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM, 7 days a week
Check-in: From 3:00 PM
Check-out: By 10:00 AM

Arriving after reception closes? Please contact us before arrival so our team can arrange your after-hours check-in.

Early arrival? No problem – you're welcome to drop your luggage with us before check-in and head out to explore Coogee.

A $50 security deposit per person and valid government-issued photo ID are required.

A 1.7% surcharge applies to payments made by credit or debit card.

Cancellations & Bookings

Standard bookings must be cancelled within the cancellation period applicable to the rate and booking channel selected. Please check the cancellation terms shown on your booking confirmation carefully.

Non-refundable bookings are charged according to the conditions of the rate selected and are non-refundable.

For stays over the Christmas and New Year period, full pre-payment is required 30 days prior to arrival and is non-refundable.

If you do not arrive on your scheduled check-in date and have not contacted us, your booking may be treated as a no-show, applicable charges will apply, and the remainder of the reservation may be cancelled.

From Sydney Airport – Public Transport 🚌

Domestic Airport:
Take the 350 bus towards Bondi Junction and get off in Coogee. From the bus stop, it’s just a short walk to the hostel.

Allow approximately 40–50 minutes, depending on traffic.

International Airport:
Take the 420 bus to Mascot, then change to the 350 bus towards Bondi Junction and continue to Coogee.

Allow approximately 55–70 minutes, depending on traffic and connection times.

Sydney public transport accepts Opal cards and contactless credit/debit cards – just remember to tap on and tap off.

Driving, Taxi or Rideshare 🚗

Mad Monkey Coogee Beach is approximately 20–30 minutes by car from Sydney Airport, depending on traffic.

Taxi and rideshare services including Uber are available from designated pickup areas at Sydney Airport.
